My fingers and hands are very stiff and painful. Hi Pat, when I did PT for my hands, they gave me a few exercises, I am not sure how well I can explain without showing you but I will try! -Start with hands up, fingers extended. Bend all fingers from the bottom finger joint (still keeping the hand up and straight)...do this about ten times. If your fingers are really bad you will feel the joints squishing. (very scientific:-) -standing up, extend arms, palms up. pull gently on ends of fingers to stretch bottom underside of hand and wrist. flip hands over to palms down, make a loose fist. Pull gently on joints on top of hand (the ones just below the fingers) until you feel a stretch in top of hand and wrist. hold stretches about 30 seconds each -for fingers, pull loosely on the finger and wiggle around...this brings more fluid to the joints which can ease pain and swelling When I am really bad I do this in the water and it really helps! Also, I use a paraffin bath when hands are really bad. I put my hands in paraffin right before bed and cover them with mittens and go to sleep...they stay nice and warm all night and are usually pretty loose by am
Guest guest
I tried a Yoga tape at home this week, after not attemting it for months. It felt great, but I was pretty sore the next day. I must have loaned my Gentle Yoga to someone. I agree with the warm water. I am heading to my hot tub right now. Anyone know exercises for the hot tub? The hot paraffin dip does wonders for the hands. I don't know of any exercises. Those units are under $20 at a discount store and are worth every penney. Once a day and you will notice long-term relief from pain. It also is great for the skin. Ks Di [ ] Water excersise > > > > Hi Everyone, > > Just wanted to share a good experience I had yesterday. Guest guest
hi pat, here are a few hand and foot exercises i did in classes i attended at the rehab hospital last year: first of all, before we did these exercises we either had an ice treatment or a warm paraffin wax treatment - for about 10 minutes, to help the fingers get ready for the exercises (for me, i preferred the warm wax): 1. one hand at a time, put your hand on a flat surface, palm down and then starting with your pointer finger, keeping the finger straight lift it and move it to the left towards your thumb, then the next finger, the next etc. then starting with your pinkie, move the finger to the right back to the initial position, repeat with all fingers. 2. put your hands on the surface again, but perpendicular to the surface, i.e. only your pinkies and wrists are resting on the surface. now lift your thumbs (which will be at the top, then your pointer finger, middle finger etc. you will need to do this slowly. 3. using the thumb and pointer finger of one hand, physically bend the fingers of the other hand, one finger at a time. the hand with the fingers being bent should remain relaxed and passive. this will help with the mobility of the joints. 4. as best you can, try to make a fist, then straighten your hand. repeat. 5. one hand at a time, try to bend the first finger joints (closest to the nail beds). straighten, repeat, etc. 6. wrist exercises - flex wrist up, then down, up, then down, repeat. 7. wrist exercise - move wrist left, then right, etc. 8. with one hand, support the other at the wrist. with this support, try to rotate your wrist in a circular motion - slowly. here are a few foot exercises: 1. place a shoelace or one of the rubber exercise bands (anything will do as long as it is flexible) on the floor, one end of which is just barely under your toes. leaving the sole of your foot flat on the floor, with your toes connect with the shoelace (or whatever) and draw it, bit by bit, towards your foot. now start in reverse and try to push the shoelace back out in front of your foot once again. 2. with a soft rubber ball, the size of a tennis ball, roll your foot around it - then let go so ball is under the sole of your foot and foot is straight. repeat. 3. lift foot off the floor and try to rotate ankle in circular motion (gently...). that's all i can remember. love, karen > > > Hi Everyone, > > Just wanted to share a good experience I had yesterday. Guest guest
Pat I also had PT and used the hot paraffin dip, and it is great. I started using the one I got my wife a few years ago and I feel it does help. Dick > > > Hi Everyone, > > Just wanted to share a good experience I had yesterday.
