Guest guest
Hi Crystal, Welcome to the group. I know you have been here for a few days now but I have always been a bit slow. lol Hope you can get the help and advice you need from this group of knowledgeable and caring people. I am on MTX and Ciclosporin along with Indocid and I do suffer from fatigue and don't sleep well but I must admit I personally put it down more to the PA itself rather than what I was taking for it, but then maybe I have been looking at it the wrong way. I think you are right to say that people must have a good idea that they are suffering from depression. I would say that I suffer bouts of it but it is not a case of being clinically depressed. I mean, of course we are not going to be happy all of the time with a disease like this and there are certainly some of us who will suffer from it in a serious way. I don't know, I am beginning to prattle on a bit so I will leave it there. lol Anyway, I hope things improve for you in the future. Take care,
Guest guest
Hello , and thanks for the welcome. I've gone through my personal testing, and I'm fairly certain it's the Bextra that was causing my sleep problems. Since going off it, I'm sleeping well again. Only problem is, now I am sore all the time when I " m awake. So I think I'm going to ask the doc to perscribe something that isn't a cox-2 inhibitor. I'm also going to the doctor(GP) today and asking them for a referral to the Arthritis Society of Canada, which has an office here in Vancouver. I've already called the Soceity, and they gave me the name of a doctor, the lady I spoke to sees her, and highly reccomended her, as she is apparently quite sympathetic to the problems that come with our disease. I was so utterly disturbed at my current rhumys condecending and dismissive attitude that I don't wish to see him any longer. Depression. Right. I can't help but laugh, as I've seen depression in other people, and know that it's not what I " m going through. I shake my head when I think about my rhumy patting me on the shoulder as he shuffled me out of his office saying " It's just depression, you'll be fine " . I've learned more about my disease in this group in the last 4 days than I have in the full 15 years of actually having it. When I started to feel the pain in my thumbs, and watched the joints swell up, I knew there was something wrong, but it took awhile for me to get my doc to refer me to a Rhumy. I'm thankful that I have the diagnosis now, and have a path I can take. Sure it hurts, especially after exercise, but I'm keeping my chin up as otherwise I'd be eating pavement. LOL Thanks everyone, the support is great, and since this isn't a widespread disease, it's good to have a place to talk and learn. Guest guest
Dear Turrelle, I'm so glad you decided to drop that rheumatologist. I hate to hear about someone being treated badly (which unfortunately I had happen to me) and they still stay with the same doctor. Changing doctors is hard and I hate to do it as much as the next person, but you just end up wasting time and in the long run hurt yourself by delaying real treatment. Believe me I know because I've done it too many times. Looking back I could kick myself for taking so long to find the right doctor, but as it was I still saw over 5 rheumatologists before they knew what was really wrong with me. I'm so glad you found our group. I felt the same way when I joined that I learned so much from this group. No doctor has come close to all the information you can get on this site. Plus you really have people who care about you. I only have 2 or 3 doctors that I think fall into that category. Anyway, good luck finding a new doctor and don't settle. I couldn't take Bextra either. I'm going to try and wait it out until my next appointment, but may end up calling the doctor anyway. Take care and I'm happy you are with us. Guest guest
Hi Crystal, You are quite right to change Rheumies. Having one you are not happy with is enough to make you depressed isn't it? lol It is difficult to get your head around it when you are first told that it is Arthritis you have when you are young and healthy. My first reaction was, " No........Its only older people who get that! " Its good that you are getting something out of the group. As you say, most of us probably don't know anyone else with P never mind PA. This group kinda puts that right doesn't it? Take care,
Guest guest
Hey Thanks for the encouragement. I totally said that same thing when my thumbs started swelling. " Arthritis is an old people disease, not a young person! What the heck is going on??? " Funnily enough the place I work in, 4 out of the 10 employees here have P. None of them have PA, but one has RA, but the docs aren't sure it's actually RA, so I might have someone, in my OWN WORKPLACE that also has PA! But I'm hoping not, for her sake. Since finding out about my own PA, she said she's going to start asking her doctors about PA now. It's certainly nice to have people to talk to about this, and not have to explain every detail every single time. It's great to have a forum to discuss and compare.
