Guest guest
, Janet, , Thanks for your good wishes. Hi all. The 60 mile, 3 day walk was a huge success. $3 million was raised for the fight against breast cancer. The presence of the band of a thousand walkers in some of NYC's ethic neighborhoods helped raised awareness in a way that advertising couldn't even begin to. Many of the views were breathtaking. The weather couldn't have been more cooperative. The food was yuck, the tents small, the portapotties claustrophobic, the shower trucks slippery, the directions wrong. The acts of kindness were bountiful, the love incalculable and being among this heroic group of women and men is a blessing for which I will always be grateful. It was an amazing 3 days. Everyone has a special reason for being there and mine is my cousin, a breast cancer survivor. This morning, I'm exhausted, in pain and puffy and very happy that I was able to participate in this amazing event. I drove a medical transport van for 3 days and picked up tired and injured walkers. Each one had a special reason for being there and as I laid in my tent at the end of each day, I realized how important it is to be part of a community of caring people when we face challenges like breast cancer or PA. I am also very blessed to be part of THIS list of caring, compassionate people with PA. Kathy F. > Kathy, > > I'm new here, but just read your message. I live on Long Island and if I can get this PA even halfway controlled then the next time maybe I can join you. I am flaring again and having a hard time but maybe one day I can help as well. I would call that a good pain this time. Take care, [Editor's Note: Yes, it's a good exhaustion and a good pain. For 3 days we lived without mirrors so I learned to see myself by looking intensely at the faces all around me and I made the wonderful discovery that we're all beautiful. Doing something for others was better than sitting home telling myself why I shouldn't get involved. Kathy F.]
Guest guest
Hi, Janet, Believe me, I understand about not being able to do things that we desperately would like to do. If your body cannot withstand the rigors of working a 3 Day breast cancer event, you could always volunteer to help walkers check in on opening day. This would involve sitting down and entering walker numbers into a computer for a few hours. There are other ways to help, too. However, the number one priority is to TAKE CARE OF YOURSELF FIRST. Wishing you wellness, Kathy F. Hi Kathy, You did a wonderful thing. I live on Long Island and if I can get this PA even halfway controlled then the next time maybe I can join you.
