-Hi FC,

I am receiving disability benefits for pa,p,fibro, asthma, etc. I got

mine approved on the first try but other people have to appeal it.

My hand x-rays look atrocious so that may be why I got it so easily.

It is good to have a strong backing from a doctor and also the

National Psoriasis Foundation offers a booklet on how to get

it.www.psoriasis.org

Good Luck,

Marti

I am just wondering if anyone has been able to get any diisablity

payments for RA or PA? I am still working but very tired at the end

of the day and still have to come home and take care of my young

family. A friend told me to try it ,but I have had mixed opinions

about it. Some say I will never get it and other say why not. I am

aware that you cannot be working to recieve it. I am on enbrel and

it is not doing well. The MTX made me to sick to take it and Vioxx

just took the edge off the pain. So I have come to this. Thanks for

any help.

Does your company offer Long Term Disability? Many companies do, but they

don't advertise it! I know I will get turned down by the govt but got approved

through my work LTD as it defines disability as " unable to perform the

essential functions of the job " ...since I was working 50-55 hours/week, and the

doctor said no more than 30, I got approved. Its important to document

(yourself

and from the doctor) the impact on your life.

Hope that helps,

[Editor's Note: Dear alwayssmile: There are attorneys who specialize in such

matters. It may well be worth at least an initial consultation/evaluation of

your specific case. And yes, people with RA and PA can qualify.

Fortunately I had a good lawyer and was approved in a

year but that is unusual.

Mickey,

Congratulations to you. I am alway happy to hear that someone with our

problem is compensated. I went to a lawyer about a month ago who is going to

file

for me. Did you try yourself first or go to a lawyer right away? I decided

to have a lawyer from the beginning. Did the whole thing take a year from

when you first filed?

While it does not help now, the SS Disability will be backdated and you will

be paid from the date you first were disabled as approved by SS. My first

check was rather large as I was maxed out in the SS system and it took almost

two

years to get the final decision. You may also have to pay taxes on the

payments depending on your total income. Keep at it.
