Guest guest
Hi , During the past year, I have been diagnosed and treated for blood clots, Deep Vein Thrombosis, cellulitis, and impetigo within my legs. I realize that my resistance to these diseases may have been lowered by receiving Remicade for PA for the past two years. Take care and best wishes. Sincerely, Bill in Washington DC
Guest guest
Hi , I had severe ankle and foot swelling for several years. The swelling finally went down after cortisone shots and when I started MTX. I am now on Humira and Arava and experience occasional moderate swelling if I over use my feet, but nothing like it used to be. In my case, it seems pretty clear that my foot and ankle swelling is related to my PA rather than to other things, because the swelling eased in tandem with the easing of my other PA symptoms. Kathy F. Finally got into see the vascular doctor and he told me that he thought my foot and ankle swelling for the last five months was related to lymphademia. NOT vasculitis. Since the swelling had gone down on it's own, it was hard for him to make a better diagnosis. Evidently lympahdemia is because our lymph nodes are not working properly, and it can happen at any time with no cure for it. Confess to have no read anything about it yet. All I do know is that the swelling went way down when the psoriasis on the sole of that foot started to clear up. It had been unbearable and I an receiving PUVA treatments for it. Deep fissures that would not heal. The vascular doctor did not think it was related, but I certainly do. Anyhow, I know there are many of us on this list who have had swelling in the lower extremities and wonder if their doctors have told them the same thing? Also my cousin is selling a product called Juice Plus and I am very reluctant to take anything my doctor does not prescribe. There are ads for it everywhere I go and it does have my curiosity peaked. Anyhow, has anyone on the list taken this and what do you think about it? You can email me off list with any comments. Thanks so much. in Poulsbo, WA. No one would tell me what was causing it because basically they didn't know. Most of the time it got blamed on prednisone, which can cause swelling. My ankles have been swelling up all year and my rheumy said it is the PA. I get large swollen balls on the outside of ankle. It happens as soon as I walk a little more then I should let myself considering the pain. I tend to push myself and overdo it. He has injected then several times with cortisone and it helps only for a short while. Janet
Guest guest
Dear , I've had problems with severe edema in my ankles and feet on and off for the past year. No one would tell me what was causing it because basically they didn't know. Most of the time it got blamed on prednisone, which can cause swelling. I ended up having 3 ultra sounds done to my leg to be sure there wasn't a blood clot causing the problems. They were all negative. I've been on Arava for 1 month now and my PA has been so much better, I'm almost afraid I'll jinx it if I put it into words. I still have pain and some days, normally from over doing it, I really still ache. (If you knew how bad I was before the Arava you would realize just those words, " over doing it " , were impossible for me since I could barely move.) Anyway, since I've been on Arava my swelling has almost gone away. I still have some by the end of the day and if my feet are down all day I really notice the increase in pain and swelling. I've kept my prednisone basically at the same level this month just to see how I did on the new drug so it's not related to the prednisone this time. I think swelling comes from PA and my lymph glands always felt swollen and sore at the same time. Most of the time they are still sore now to touch, but they don't ache like they did. I " m still going to the Cleveland clinic in Sept (it got postponed due to a doctor's scheduling problems) and I'll ask them about it then. It is so annoying to have suffered with something like edema and then when you see the doctor it's gone. I mean no one wants to be in pain or have problems, but you at least want your body to back you up once in awhile..lol. Anyway, I think edema and swollen lymph nodes go with a PA flare. Sometimes I really wish all the rheumatologists out there would read our PA support group site. They would really get a good picture of what living with PA is like, and all these strange side effects that they dismiss, they would realize are connected to PA. But that's just wishful thinking I guess. Sorry I don't know anything about Juice Plus. It sounds safe..lol, but that's not much to go on. Let us know if it helps. Take a 1 gallon milk jug or a large pitcher and mix up the chemical formula HOH. Formulate it as exact to this ratio as possible 1 part Oxygen to 2 parts Hydrogen. Once you have the compound synthesized you should take it by mouth in about 16 ounce doses spread evenly throughout the day, the first dose as soon as you wake in the morning and the last of the gallon at least 2-3 hours before bedtime. The formula should be mixed daily as although not extremely volatile it will break down to a vapor so it might not be a bad idea to store it in an airtight container. Refrigeration will slow the vaporization rate and taken cool is more palatable for some although I enjoy it at room temperature. If this is too complicated you may wish to just put your jug under the tap in the kitchen and fill it with HOH. You may get a small amount of minerals and such that way but those minerals may add to its effectiveness in some cases.
