Gentle Hugs, Carol M. in CA I just went to a lawyer to file for disability last week. I didn't want to do it myself for the first time and I figured I had a better chance going through them the first time. They told me to expect to be called for an exam by one of their doctors and that I have to have it.. They also said to expect to be denied the first time and it takes a 6 months to hear anything. Good luck and let me know what happens. How long ago did you apply? JANET
Guest guest
Carol, I had one just before my first denial. SSD sent me to a local doctor they have in the city and he gave me the once over, Very Fast. He only had copies of half of my medical records sent to him. He talked real fast and didn't really ask many questions. Every time I said anything he would say we will get to that but by the time it was over, some things we never did get to. He had me walk front wards, backwards and stand on my tees and heals. He had me grab his hand and he pushed my arms up and down. When all was said and done, I got the canned statement from SSD about three weeks later that everything I had wasn't bad enough to stop me from doing my job. The only problem was they had me down as a manager and not as a quality auditor that spent all his time on his feet and had responsibilities for 5 other functions. Then before I got my second denial I was sent for a mental examination. The lady was nice but didn't ask many questions. She asked if I was depressed and gave me 3 words to remember. We talked about my childhood for awhile and then she asked me to tell her the 3 words and I could only remember 2 of them. Then I got the same canned statement that said I could still do my job about 3 months later. They still had me listed as a manager. On another forum a few of use were comparing second denial letters and they were almost word for word from 4 different states. I just got notified in the mail yesterday that the company that is representing me for my third appeal has officially filed my third appeal with SSD. I was told this one could take between 8-12 more months and it has already been 12 since I first filed. Carol I am not trying to put your hopes down, but the process is long. I am finding that out every day. I went into this thinking that I have paid for it all my life and now that the doctors have documented me as unable to work and I need it, I thought it was just a matter of filing some papers and I would be granted my disability. I Was Wrong! I have heard of some people that do get SSD in their first try but they seem to be few and far between. I do wish you luck with your SSD process Carol. Guest guest
Hi Janet, I applied in November of 2003 - I was told I would have an answer in April of 2004 - so it is getting close to that time. I will keep you posted. Thanks, Carol M. in Ca
