Guest guest
Grape Seed Extract Found to Help Maintain Colon Health By Greg Arnold, DC, CSCS, October 30, 2006, abstracted from " Grape Seed Extract Inhibits In vitro and In vivo Growth of Human Colorectal Carcinoma Cells " in the October 15, 2006 issue of Clinical Cancer Research As the second most common cause of cancer-related deaths in the United States, the American Cancer Society estimates 145,290 new cases of colon cancer and 56,290 deaths from colon cancer occurred in 2005.(1) What most people don't know is that colon cancer takes a long time to progress from benign to malignant, so there is " a much needed opportunity " to employ health care strategies in the form of health screenings and vitamin supplementation.(2) The list of foods and supplements that can help maintain colon health includes: 30-35 grams of fiber per day,(3) 15 micrograms of broccoli extract per day,(4) olive oil,(5) 400 mg of calcium per day,(6) Conjugated Linoleic Acid ,(7) 9 mg of vitamin B6 per day,(8) more than 30 mg of flavonoids per day(9) and 480 mg of curcumin and 20 mg of quercetin 3 times a day.(10) Now a new study11 has found that grape seed extract (GSE) , of which 300 mg per day has recently been found to help curb a worldwide high blood pressure epidemic,(12) may also help maintain colon health. In the study, researchers exposed colorectal cancer cells to 25, 50, and 100 micrograms per milliliter of GSE in a lab setting. They found that in as little as 12 hours the three GSE dosages decreased cancer cell levels by 11%, 27%, and 48%, respectively. By 48 hours, there was as much as an 85% decrease. The researchers found that the higher the dosage, the greater the effect on the colorectal cancer cells. The researchers also found that GSE exerted this effect by stopping replication of the cancer cells, thereby theoretically stopping the cancer cells from spreading in humans. For the researchers, 'GSE may be an effective [preventive] agent against colorectal cancer. " Greg Arnold is a Chiropractic Physician practicing in Danville, CA. Guest guest
Quantifying the fiber deficiency is the most often missed point in colon health discussions. The modern diet contains far too little, and once people get a colon issue because of the deficiency it can take a year or two to correct if the fiber remains inadequate, but a couple of months if it's added back in. The inulin deficiency alone is about 12 grams. Modern advice pegs total fiber at a low 35 gram minimum; I think that by adding around 20 grams of psyllium, cellulose, and lignin fibers to address this kind of deficiency from all sources that might just cover the actual deficiency. Addressing the inulin deficiency should be on top of that. The post cited a test tube study that showed GSE kills cancer cells in a test tube. So does salt, and I would be wary of an extrapolation of this data to the real world. Duncan On 22 Nov 2006 at 12:31, cures for cancer wrote: > Colon health > Posted by: " robert-blau@... Guest guest
Hi Mikem and all Mikem.thanks.What else did you do to improve your colon health? Also anyone know if coconut milk has any effect on digestive system. Couple of days ago I consumed some coconut milk and I had the good bowel movements next day,(sorry for the topic). I wonder if this had any relationship with coconut milk or if it was a coincedance. best wishes nil colon health hope this isn't too much information, but it's important. most of my healing came from me learning how to increase bm rate from once daily to four times daily. over time, the colon becomes impacted which means 1) there is too much waste in the body, which is unhealthy and 2) you don't get as much absorption and asssimilation of nutrients. also, we don't go to the bathroom the way we should. we were designed to do our business in a " squatting " position. when we 'sit' certain muscles involved in the process are not used. so when you 'sit' you may think that you are done, but if you reach down, grab your ankles and strain, you find that you were not done after all. now, if your colon is too impacted, this technique may not work. some say a stool kept in front of the toilet is better so you can raise your knees up. ------------------------------------ This list is intended for patients to share personal experiences with each other, not to give medical advice. Guest guest
I use magnesium with every meal, and also, you can use Ascorbic Acid (vitamin C). Both are helpful anyway, and can be used " to bowel tolerance " . You can check out Dr. Myhill's webpage-she's got an entire book you can download with lots of good stuff. So many studies, docs, researchers out there. If they'd only put their heads together about stuff...sorry, rambling. > > Hi Mikem and all > > Mikem.thanks.What else did you do to improve your colon health? > > Also anyone know if coconut milk has any effect on digestive system.
