Here is something I found on the causes and Lung Cancer doesn't seem to be very high on the list, if at all. Have you had a second opinion? There are many causes for this condition and not all are malignancy. Best to get a second, even third opinion. Mistakes are made every day. Causes: Today, the most common etiology of SVCS is related to malignancy. Prior to modern antibiotics, infectious causes including syphilis, tuberculosis, and fungi occurred with almost equal frequency. The most common cause of malignancy-related SVCS is bronchogenic CA, which accounts for nearly 80% of cases. Lymphoma accounts for approximately 15% of cases. Other cases have a variety of causes, including infectious and catheter-related etiologies. Increasingly, dialysis catheters and pacemaker leads are becoming associated with superior vena cava syndrome due to thrombosis.
Guest guest
Hi fdhere...sorry to read of all the difficulties you are having and so far no one on this list has any helpful suggestions for you. I'd like to suggest that you go to http://listserv.acor.org/ There you can join the list for lung cancer and be in touch with many other people in exactly the same situation as yourself. I'm sure they'll be able to help you out. A friend of mine has cancer of the mouth and even though he is not going through traditional medical treatement, I joined the ACOR head neck cancer group and the people have been very supportive and a wealth of information. Hopefully this doesn't sound as though the folk here aren't supportive and helpful, because they certainly are when it comes to alternative therapies....but the acor groups are made up of people going through exactly the same disease as you...many of them will have experienced the same problems you have with rads and chemo. Hope this helps...K > > floks i woke up one morning with face swollen. thought i had an > allergy or something. noticed nothing until this happened, thought i > was fine. to make a long story short swelling got worse, they sent me > for cat scan and said i had superior vena cava. lungs were clear they > have not ot this day found anything in my lungs. they told me this > was caused by lung cancer. doing chemo and radiation. radiation is > making it hard for me to swallow anything, and everything i eat taste > like cardboard. doing flax oil and cottage cheese, cq10, ip6,and > vitamin c and e. radiation is burning skin on chest and back. chemo > is doing all kinds of crazy things to my body,it varies from day to > day never know what to expect each day. brother that chemo is rough > stuff! anything, anything, anybody can tell me to do to help myself > please, please do!i will tyr anything to get me through this. i have > no insurance and am at the mercy of the local hospital where i > live.please help me! help me anyway you can. will try anything to get > through this and or make this easior.folks i will apreciate anything > any of you have to offer. thanks fdhere
