" Normal " is just a label. You need to discern whether you have primary or secondary hypogonadism. Please review the AACE clinical guidelines (see Links section) particularly with respect to the clomiphene stimulation test and/or the hcg stimulation test. In the event you suffer from secondary hypogonadism you can simply choose hcg as your treatment. This will either improve or at least not harm your fertility. If you need to use exogenous testosterone, you can simply bank some sperm (assuming you are fertile now). When you are ready to father children, you can use hcg/hmg and see what happens. In the event of failure, you have the sperm bank to fall back upon. Good luck, Brad
Guest guest
Hi , Your total T levels are awfully low for your age. The average (mean) level for ages 25-34 is 617 ng/dL. I hope your doc is smart enough to know that your low-normal level does not necessarily mean a healthy level. Next tests should also include free T, FSH & E2. Brad's reply (msg. #17218) is great advice. I haven't tried HCG myself, but it's an appropriate start for your age. Best, Bruce > I recently went to my Dr. with concerns about ED. Guest guest
- Most (not all) guys that acquire low T at such a young age are secondary hypogonadal, meaning there's a problem with your pituitary gland, not your testes. If you have been on any drugs such as propecia or an anti-depressant, this can cause problems with your pituitary. You need to get copies of your full test results and post them here. Doctors are very quick to say levels are normal, when they really aren't. They may be at the top or bottom of the range, which normally isn't good. I'm 27 and have very low libido. All of my test results are in range (my T is 536) however my estradiol level is right at the top of the range. My doctor tried to tell me it was normal, but if you ask anyone here they will tell you it is too high. You've found a great group. Everyone here is very knowledgable. Guest guest
, I too developed low T at a young age (probably 19) due to the trauma of two severe infections. It wasn't detected until I was 30. According to a fertility specialist I saw (I am 32 now and still might want to have kids), he has been able to help men " get pregnant " after being on T replacement for a couple years. From what I've read here and elsewhere, it seems that the way to get the most clinical benefits and preserve fertility is to do a combination of T and HCG. Or if your doctor is willing you could try HCG alone. Mark
