Guest guest
URL: http://www.businesswire.com Business Wire November 29, 1999 Adac Laboratories Announces a Breakthrough in Nuclear Medicine Technology SKYLIGHT, the First Gantry-Free Nuclear Medicine System, Offers Capabilities to Expand Nuclear Medicine Beyond Current Applications. ADAC Laboratories (Nasdaq:ADAC) today introduced the SKYLIGHT, the first gantry-free nuclear medicine gamma camera. This breakthrough system provides unprecedented openness and flexibility of applications. The SKYLIGHT system, currently a work in progress, is based on a unique architecture that allows gamma detectors to be mounted directly into a room structure, thus removing limitations associated with the floor-based mechanical gantries of existing nuclear medicine gamma cameras. " SKYLIGHT is the result of several years of research by our R & D group and we believe the significance of this innovation will be similar to other landmark developments in Nuclear Medicine such as the Vertex variable angle cameras and Molecular Coincidence Detection (MCD), " stated Burbach, ADAC Medical Systems president. " It provides a level of openness and patient access not currently possible and also provides a wide arena of potential additional applications for nuclear medicine, " Burbach said. With its unique architecture, SKYLIGHT provides FreeDimensional imaging which allows the detectors to move in any direction together or independently. This is a significant benefit because the system moves to accommodate the patient position rather than having the patient positioned to fit the camera. This provides improvements in productivity as well as allowing new nuclear procedures such as total body venograms, dual detector total body spots, full brain SPECT and standing total body imaging. Its openness and flexibility also makes the system ideal for challenging patient situations such as pediatrics, claustrophobic patients and lymphoscintigraphy. SKYLIGHT also opens a number of potential expansions in the field of nuclear medicine. This includes the combination of nuclear medicine with other diagnostic imaging modalities such as Computed Tomography (CT) or Ultrasound, and the use of nuclear imaging in surgical and interventional applications. " For many years, ADAC has proven its leadership in nuclear medicine. From the first digital detectors to MCD to the Forte in 1998 and now Skylight, it has had a consistent track record of innovation, " said Professor Hussein Abdel-Dayem, chief of nuclear medicine at St s Hospital in New York. " The importance of this unique concept is that it has clear advantages in nuclear medicine per se and is also a gateway for new applications in diagnostic imaging, " Dr. Abdel-Dayem added. ADAC Laboratories is the world market-share leader in nuclear medicine and radiation therapy planning systems and a technology leader in providing clinical workflow solutions, management information and knowledge systems to healthcare organizations in North America. ADAC is headquartered in Milpitas, CA with its HealthCare Information Systems Division in Houston, TX.
