Guest guest
Concrete has no organic material, so will not be a growth medium for mold. The mold is only growing on the dirt on the floor. So, if the floor is well cleaned with detergent and rinsed, followed by bleach disinfectant, no further sealing should be necessary. Carpet on basement or slab floors is often a mold problem, since ground moisture can migrate up through the concrete, unless a moisture barrier is placed under the slab prior to pouring it. Relative humidity within carpet fibers can be far higher than in the main room air. For more info on flood clean-up (including sewer backup), see the flood remediation section on University of Minnesota department of environmental health and safety web site, www.dehs.umn.edu Also check the Red Cross web page. ----Original Message Follows---- From: " lynkirk " <lynkirk@...> Reply- Subject: [] Mold Clean-up Date: Fri, 28 Dec 2001 05:04:39 -0000 I've just found this group and I apologize if this issue has been addressed many times. My son is in the process of cleaning up the damage and mold in his home due to the city's sewer line backing up into his home. Our question is, once the flooring has been stripped to the slab and sanitized with bleach solution, is it neccessary to seal the cement slab? If it is, what is recommended? We've heard everything from oil based paint to some type of special sealant. Thanks for your help. lynkirk _________________________________________________________________ Join the world’s largest e-mail service with MSN Hotmail. http://www.hotmail.com
