Amy,

Depends, many start with Ala and do just fine. We started with dmsa due to a

belief that you had to reduce body stores before you used Ala, this was

inaccurate.

We used dmsa/ala for about 5 months and then we tried just the Ala alone and we

got some pretty spacey behavior, that sometimes happens to some kids, ours was

just one of them. Other kids take straight Ala and do fine right from the start

and the spaciness is not permanent just happened during the round.

She was totally happy, but spacey during the round, didn't bother her at all,

but made us a little uncomfortable, really a rare event. We now use just Ala and

do not get this side effect.

[ ] Advantage of starting with DMSA instead of ALA

Is there an advantage to starting with DMSA and then adding ALA? I was hoping

to start with ALA first......

Any input is appreciated.

Amy

Less side effects.

DMSA can clean up the body metals a bit before you go at the brain.

It would depend on what you are trying to remove. If you are just

going for mercury you may not need dmsa at all. However, if lead is

there..you should use dmsa right in the beginning. Usually, most

start with dmsa first. Many people do not tolerate ala right away,

it depends on their toxicity and such. Some tolerate it just fine.

Also, dmsa helps keep the side effects of chelating with ala down.

So uses them together can make is easier. My son does well on both.

I do not. Depends on the person.

Is there a reason you wish to add dmsa secondly? Just asking because

I know I was really apprehensive to use dmsa in the beginning,

really on the fence at trying to avoid using it. But as it happend,

my son was way too high in lead to mess around..I don't regret going

with dmsa/ala. He has made huge improvements.

Doesn't matter, as long as there hasn't been a new Hg exposure in the

last 3 months, in which case start with DMSA. It is good to start them

separately so you can see if they're tolerated.
