Guest guest
I submitted my religious exemption last year for my kids. For pre-k and a sixth grader. No problems, no question. This year I send in the paper for my son for kindergarten (same school district), and I just received this packet of crap requesting that I fill out in my own words why I want a religious exemption in order to proove that I should have one. Now the original stuff I file complies with NYS laws, I had a notarized exemption form, and I also wrote a letter in my own words (typed) that I signed, and I included a copy of the Law. What do we do. I know we have to proceed carefully and reply to this appropriately or we will be denied. I don't know if this is something they just started doing, but the downstate district have been. Anybody? What do we do? Email me please. Guest guest
As far as I know, it is absolutely illegal for anyone to make you PROVE your religious beliefs. If you are in compliance with the law, they cannot make you do anything. -------------- Original message -------------- From: " Jan " <paxlforme@...> I submitted my religious exemption last year for my kids. Guest guest
Or perhaps you can print out a copy of the relevant part of the law and send them that. Guest guest
I did both of those things with the original exemption. I filed it exactly as VacLib said, including the copies of the laws and everything. > > > Or perhaps you can print out a copy of the relevant part of the law and send them that. > S S > > From: " Jan " <<a href= " mailto:paxlforme% > > I submitted my religious exemption last year for my kids. Guest guest
Hi Jan, I saw that after I sent the message. Do you have a lawyer friend who will send a letter to the school, or could you send a letter to the editor of the local paper or school board mentioning harrassment? Or just one to the school saying you're considering the above actions if they continue? S S I did both of those things with the original exemption. I filed it exactly as VacLib said, including the copies of the laws and everything. _______________________________________________ Join Excite! - http://www.excite.com The most personalized portal on the Web! Guest guest
I agree with . You might ask them (in writing, of course) what authority they have to require you to justify your religious beliefs to them. Or, the easier road might be to make something up.... Guest guest
I would simply reply with your notarized form with a separate note telling them that this form complies with XXX Statute of your state. Good Luck, Neil Re: [ ] OT: Problem with exemption...guys need some help You could write that you consider your child's body a temple and don't want it polluted/desecrated. Playing dumb has worked for my family for other similar issues. Take all the paperwork and a copy of the law, and personally visit the school. Act dumb. Indicate that you thought you had all the paperwork correct, and it worked for your other children, and you are having a difficult time understanding why it is not complete. Ask very specifically what is required, and why. When you are given information, ask where it is required in the law. Show a copy of the law and ask them to point to the appropriate section. You can indicate that you did write a letter in your own words, and you need to know exactly why it is not sufficient. Dana
