A question about STAR and DOC

Just last week, CT mentioned to me that their band is the only device

of its kind that has received FDA approval. They told my insurance

company that they should cover the band at network percentages even

though they are not a network provider because they are the " ONLY

provider " .

But people on the boards seem to be saying otherwise.

I may, at some point, wade through all the FDA doodoo myself, but can

somebody tell me in a nutshell what the deal is? Did CT mislead me?

Or is there something different about their FDA status as compared to

STAR Band's status?

TIA!!

Hi Judy,

I not sure why someone at Cranial Tech would say that. That DOC band was the

first FDA approved device. However, since the DOC band's approval two other

devices have been approved based on the predicate approval of the DOC Band.

So, I'm not certain why you would have been told that. Even the CT website

mentions that it was the first not the only FDA approved device. On the other

hand, Cranial Tech is the only provider of the DOC band.

I doubt anyone meant to mislead. Sounds like some miscommunication.

Best wishes,

Judy:

The STARband is also FDA approved. There is also a "CranioCap" that is approved, but I think it's just available thru one hospital, not nation wide.

Go to www.orthomerica.com where you can find info. on their FDA approval. Maybe print it out and take it to your uninformed clinician.
