well, Greg is back from the doctor and i am real disappointed. Greg asked about

viral loads

and genotypes and the doc just said all that stuff isn't important to him at

all. he said all that is

important is that Greg has the disease and needs to be cured. he said only

thirty pervcent of

eople onthe treatment are cured. he didn't want to do a biopsy because he said

it takes a

chunk out of the liver, and people can bleed to death. greg wants a biopsy

because he had

one ten years ago which showed minor scarring, and he wants to know if it's

worse or the

same. the doc said if the biopsy shows worse, then he recommends treatment of

one shot a

week and all the pills. he laughed in Greg's face when Greg mentioned AHCC and

milk thistle

and said it was ridiculous. We have no choice since we have group health

insurance. he did

draw more blood for testing, took a urine sample, and suggested that yes, i be

tested. before,

he said no.

Someone is supposed to contact us about when the biopsy will be. I guess i will

call my doc

and have him send a slip to the lab so I can be tested.

Bye for now.

Greg is going to have to do his own shots if the doc ends up giving him the

treatment. he gives

mixed signals, first saying he really wants greg to have the treatment' then

saying only 30

percent of people getting the treatment are cured, and then saying all the other

stuff doesn't

matter so now greg's not listening to me about red meat, dairy products,

caffeine. Great.

The doc finally consented to a biopsy being done but still says viral loads,

genotypes, and all

of that means nothing. and he actually laughed right in Greg's face when Greg

asked about

ahcc, milk thistle, etc. he said the diet is not restricted at all. No mention

of diet changes. No

mention of drinking water. We can't change doctors. i will work as best i can to

incorporate

what i learn into our daily lives.

Hi, sharon and everyone. this doctor even told Greg it's ok if he wants to have

a beer now and

then. Great! We have group health insurance so must stay within their guidelines

but if things

go too crazy, i will call their main office and insist on a new doctor or i will

make so much

publicity, they will probablytake my tongue out and forget about his liver, lol.

Hi again. terry had said that his wife gave him his first one. Not being able to

see, i would be

afraid of doing that. i gave myself imitrex shots for migraines until i became

allergic to the

medicine, but giving a shot to someone else frightens me so he'd have to do it.

yes, i will let everyone know when i know something. right now, i think Greg is

a bit

overwhelmed. he wants to believe me and the info i have gathered for him, and he

wants to

believe in his doctor, and right now, the twain shall not meet, lol. I will work

on it, though. this

doctor is fortunate he has Greg for a patient and not me. And if it turns out I

have it, look out! i

will get results, believe me. i am a kind, caring, usually somewhat quiet

person, but not if my life

or my loved one's life is being played with.

Get a different doctor! Even with a group or HMO, you should be able to

request a different dr.

I don't know what Greg is going to do about this doctor. he's an internist I

think. if I find out

ihave hcv, I can guarantee you, i will be hitting the problem head-on, not just

being passive

and waiting for things to change. greg is mellow and just lets things go; not

me! But, it's up to

him. it's his body. i can offer him nformation, hope he makes the right choices,

but it's up to

him. i will be behind him all the way, pushing the doc to do what's right. i

talked to Greg about

milk thistle, etc. Then the dang doctor tells him it's ok for him to have a beer

or two now and

then. Great help that was! oh well. time will tell. thanks to everyone for

supporting me during

this rough time. It seems our entire lives are bunches of rough times, but I

guess it's how it is

supposed to be, and i am a fighter and a survivor so this too shall pass, or at

least get treated,

grin.

Too bad your doctor couldn't meet my doctor. He'd probably get served a

knuckle sandwich!

Hi, Sue,

>he sees the doctor tomorrow and right now is

saying he doesn't want the treatments. <

I would keep pushing him on this. After all, his decision one way or

another affects you as well. Some people can't tolerate the treatment, and

that's that. But as my doc said, when I was debating whether to go on it:

if there's a treatment available, why not go for it? If you can't do it,

okay, but at least make a good faith effort.

It sounds like your husband is already feeling bad, so treatment might not

make him feel worse than he does now. In any case, keep talking to him:

find out why he doesn't want to take the treatment. Nothing wrong with

being afraid! We all are; but why not take a shot at feeling better, living

longer and improving the quality of your life? Maybe you could put it to

him this way.

This is a little different, but a few years ago, my regular MD had me watch

a video on prostate cancer and whether or not to take the PST test. There

are pros and cons either way, and I decided to take a wait-and-see attitude.

I wouldn't want to overload your husband right now, but he is at the age

when he needs to start getting examined regularly and thinking about this,

if he's not already doing it (and that goes for any other guys reading this

who may not want to deal with it).

I wish you the best in working this out,

Hello to and everyone. I am not in a position to explain my husband's

job, but he's

worried about the side effects of the treatment, especially when the video said

loss of memory,

and that's one thing, in the job he's in, he can not afford to let happen. i

think he will make a

decision after the biopsy. I thought that prostate cancer test was a pas not a

pst. Which is it?

have a good day, everyone. Sun is shining so I am taking Gidget outside to groom

her; she

loves it.

Hi Sue

As far as I know the prostate test for cancer is PSA ( Prostate Specific

Antigen )

Don't let use that as an excuse not to get treatment, you can get

brain fog just by virtue of having Hep C, you don't have to be on treatment!

Ask me? If I remember that is.

Not as bad as the time when I was ten years old, out at school recess and was taking a pee in the woods and didn't watch where I was aiming until it was way too late. I had on light khaki pants, of course. I didn't go in when the bell rang and stayed out until I dried off a little. I forget what I told the teacher. Guess I was a space cadet even then.

okok my most embarassing moment. It was sooooo many years ago. One of those nights you stay in as a blizzard raged outside. I had the little ones all tucked in for the night and I got all freshened up in a very spectacular black satin number with my black feather boa trimmed high heel slippers. Baby doll type as I say this was years ago now. Bill had dozed off on the couch so I stepped out into the dead of night on to the porch for just a moment to really take a good look at the storm in progress and the door shut behind me. Of course the door automatically locked. I am outside in a raging blizzard in feather boa high heel slippers and the lingerie to match!!!! Now it takes no genius to realize I am going to freeze to death in minutes. I am screaming and pounding to get in. Nope Rip Van Winkle could not be aroused. Finally I ran across the street to the neighbors house. Asked to borrow the phone. I also asked for something like a coat or something to hide the fact that I obviously was not dressed for the occasion of calling on the neighbors. Finnaly the phone woke Bill up and I got let back into the house. Actually I have tons of embarassing moments ...... I could write a book. Like the time we went to the State Capitol building in Lincoln Nebraska and up to the observation tower. I stuck my head out the grate in the decorative iron grating to get a better view........... And could NOT get my head back in.......My brother has sworn since that very day he will not be seen with me in Lincoln Nebraska. This entailed security men soap and oil and hours. Or there was the time........ no I think I'll save it for the book!!!!!!!! /Fluffy Re: [ ] hello.
