I read a post awhile back about someone who was wondering about the sources for

how a child could pick up an arsenic overload. My son came back high is

arsenic. My DAN doctor said there are two main sources for this ...

Anything made commercially from wood is treated with arsenic ... like wooden

playground equipment and decks .... etc. He said always make sure your child

washes his/her hands after playing on such equipment .... especially before

eating. I.E.... don't have a picnic on the play equipment.

And commercially grown chickens are feed arsenic to help them grow faster....

isn't that nice!

He said can't say it enough .... ORGANIC Chicken for your son only.....

I would like to add that any root vegtable that is mechanically

harvested is also a great source of arsenic....ie potatoes and

such...they use the arsenic to kill the tops so that can be harvested

at one time...so those are big no no's too....

Right.

My son's arsenic spiked over the summer when he was eating mainly

chicken salad, which I thought was a good thing, since he's always

had problems with yeast and carbohydrate metabolism. I was buying

Trader Joe's hormone and antibiotic free chicken not realizing that

unless it says " organic, " it's got arsenic, and Trader Joe's

actually has one of the highest levels. You can check the levels on

various brands here.

Arsenic controls parasites in chicken, thus their increased size.

No, organic farmers do not use arsenic. We let the potato tops die off naturally

and then dig the potatoes. Organic potatoes should be fine. Organic regs would

not allow arsenic.

Gosh I honestly don't know.....I hadn't checked into that....I would

sure hope not....but never assume anything.....my kids have such a

hard time with potatoes....that we hardly eat them....really does

make ya feel good about the chicken....we eat chicken all the

time....one of the few meats that they can tolerate....and no I have

to say it isn't always organic....the budget won't always tolerate

things esp with the supps we have to buy......ugh....there are 8 of

us on this #^@^%^@^% diet....
