I'm panicking!!

Hi all:

My son is blowing up!!

Six months ago (before enzymes) his weight was 55 pounds. He's is 6

years old. Now, his weight is 70 POUNDS. I'm panicking.

He is having the same diet (all carbs, of course - we failed on the

GF/CF diet horribly) and amount of food since 3 years ago. Since he is

a tall child, I had no idea on how much he was gaining, but our photos

from Christmas of 2005 and this last Chrismas' photos made us realize

(and the scale as well) that he is getting heavy. It does not affect

his movements or breathing, or looks very heavy, but this is not the

ideal weight for him.

Has anybody have this kind of experience? I don't want to stop

the enzymes (He was having enzymes from kirkman, now we have switched

to Houston's). Any light??

Thanks

Is it possible that he is just enjoying food now that it doesn't hurt his belly

to eat? I certainly wouldn't put such a young child on a diet but it wouldn't

hurt to examine exactly what he eats. See if you cut back on processed foods,

white bread/rice, sugar...that kinds of things and up his lean proteins. Does

he get enough exercise? Trying to encourage that would also be good if he is

lacking in that area. Just don't let him know you are concerned about his

weight. It is incredibly easy to get a complex about that sort of thing and

impossible to get rid of it once you have it.

I would definitely keep an eye on it and see if it doesn't level off. A lot

of kids get a few extra pounds once on enzymes. I know I have...but I can eat

now and not be in pain later so it is easier to eat and more often...

This happened to my son when he was 2-3. He gained so much weight

all he could wear were 5T overalls; there wasn't a pair of pants

that fit around him, and, I learned, they don't make " huskies " til

size 7. He couldn't stop eating, mainly due to yeast. He is also

VERY intolerant of gluten; he will still eat constantly, if gets

gluten without enzymes. He also still has some food intolerances,

and if he eats something he doesn't tolerate - high

phenols, " enriched " flour (he doesn't tolerate the added iron or B

vitamins), rice or corn syrup, etc. - he will get in a spiral of

craving what he doesn't tolerate, getting yeast from all the carbs,

then constant eating, hyper, staying awake eating well into the

night, waking up early and eating, and all the while helping himself

to things WITHOUT ENZYMES, so it really is a vicious cycle.

Make a clean, clean environment where he can't get anything you

don't want him to have without having his enzymes first, treat yeast

if you are dealing with yeast, and maybe try removing some foods

temporarily, if there are only certain things he's craving and you

think those might be problem foods.

One thing I recently did, since my son was in this

yeast/gluten/enzyme-free state over winter break, was put labels on

all the frig and pantry shelves that he can get to that say " First

AFP Peptizyde, then snack. " I am trying to teach him if he does

help himself to take those first - the chewables.

When you switched enzymes, are you sure the ones he's on now are

covering the same foods, and the same dose, or in general, is he

having an effective dose? My son will do very badly if he doesn't

get the right dose or timing. He is still a very large person who

needs to eat a lot - estimated to be 6'4 " eventually - but not

unhealthily overfed. There's a big difference in quality there.

I am having the same problem. My son is 5 will be 6 in a few weeks and

weighs 65 lbs. We have done wonderfully with the GFCF diet. He loves it and

has

had real positive results. When we started he lossed 8 lbs but then gained it

back. He is tall so it doesn't look real bad but I am concened about what

effect it is haveing on his overall health. He is a very active boy but

sometimes I can see the weight being a issue when he is running and climbing.

Everytime he gains a couple inches in height he also gains lbs. He is not an

over

eater. Some days he would like to be but I will not allow him.

We are GFCF and Color free. Also taking the HNI trio and other Supplements.

My son ate all the time when he was eating foods or supplements he did

not tolerate, and when he had a yeast overgrowth issue.
