Following up on an earlier post...I am now 5 months pregnant with #3.

This had been my best pregnancy. I credit a whole-foods prenatal

vitamin with probiotics for most of that. Much less reflux than before.

Which enzymes are safe to take during pregnancy? And how often? If

you took them, did your OB feel ok with it?

And most importantly, did you do it for your own symptoms or for the

baby?

Thanks-

I took all three Houston enzymes while pregnant and continue to do them

while nursing. No food passes my mouth without enzymes (and that means I

take a lot of them b/c I eat so frequently while nursing). I did them for

the baby (now 10 months and in GREAT shape - perfect stools, pointing waving

clapping, crawling, babbling, cheerful, a blessing baby). My first child

(almost 4) has leaky gut and other digestive issues. I realized I probably

have absorption issues (and I also have amalgams) and thought they would

help me utilize the nutrients I was ingesting. I had never know myself to

have digestive problems or food sensitivities prior to taking them but have

since realized I probably have had some under the radar screen all of my

life. I did not share this piece with my midwife (baby was a home birth)

but I did tell her about the selenium and fish oil and probiotics I was

taking.

Pretty much any digestive enzymes would be okay, but do check with your

health care person who is helping monitor the pregnancy. I suggest

looking for something without 'interesting' fillers and without fruity

enzymes (papain, bromelain, actinidin) just because a certain subset of

people tend to be sensitive to them.

I would do it for both. When mom is in better health, little one is in

better health.

I took Houston enzymes, No-Fenol, HN-Zyme Prime and AFP Peptizyde. I took them

with every meal and snack and drink. My OB was fine with it. I did it for both

myself (I'd been using them prior to my pregnancy) and for the baby. is

doing just great. I used then while I nursed her, on the days I missed a dose or

had to ration (due to backorders), we would get spit up, lots of gas, and her

sleep patterns would get thrown off, she'd also cry, but I think that was due to

the gas. is now 14 months and I occasionally sprinkle them in her beverage

if the meal is more than just veggies and protein. never took to a tippy

cup, we went from nursing to a straw. Good luck to you and Congratulations on

your pregnancy.
