There are a lot of promises of miracle cures out there, and a lot of things which cause more problems. However, I don't believe that just because something is " medically approved " , that it somehow makes something okay. Vaccinations are " medically approved " , and that is why my son was autistic. I recovered my son with OTC supplements. No doctor at all. In fact, many years ago when I called DAN doctors [the ones who are supposed to believe that autism is biomedical, not genetic], none of them would agree to work with my son, because his dx is a genetic dx, classic Kanner's autism, severe, low functioning. However, he is no longer severe, low functioning, or even autistic. He is not yet age-appropriate tho. > She told us that there is no miracle cure for autism. What is your > opinion regarding this? No miracle cure. Usually it takes a lot of methodical observing, researching, asking questions, trial and error, more observing, more research, etc. But, there is a cure. The difficult part is finding out exactly what YOUR specific child needs. Dana
Guest guest
I got the same response from our pediatrician and I agree that it is not a miracle cure but what I am doing is helping in so many ways-- ask your ped what can THEY do for your kid--the answer is NOTHING!!! They told me get her in a good ABA program and get her on a waiting list for a group home (she was 3 at the time!!!) What a crock--I will go with the " quacks " because they are the only doctors that are us helping us!!!! Guest guest
Greetings Gloria and , You received much the same advice our ped gave us just after Jamey was diagnosed at the ripe old age of 13. At that time, he'd been in special ed classroom (fully self contained) and was pretty much verbal yet out of it, if that makes any sense. The Doctor told us to socialize him, as autism is hardwired and there is nothing else to be done. What a load of *crap* he gave us. Pooh-poohed anything I brought up concerning diet and supplements and told us that there's a lot of snake oil out there...so, we went home and spent a week or two thinking it was hopeless. Then one day as the boy sat drooling in the seat next to me as I drove down the highway I decided to give the GF/CF diet a try. What could it hurt? It's only restricting some food, and if it helps, why not???? We started down the biomedical route and have never looked back! Just to update you on the " drooling " boy?? He's now 16 in highschool/mainstreamed and getting A's mainly in 5 of 6 classes (4 of which are regular ed) Make no mistake, he's not CURED, but he's one hell of a lot better off than his pediatrician would have him. DO NOT let her dictate what you do with your child. Your Ped WORKS for YOU and YOUR CHILD. If she cannot see the value in what you are doing, seek another who will help you on this LONG road. I shudder to think where we'd be had we let the Ped dictate our future...perhaps looking at group homes somewhere? Jamey talks about getting a job, having an apartment and driving someday... He may be a bit slower than the average kid, but he'll get there. I hope your child does too. Good luck to you! Lack of hope from Pediatrician We took our son to his pediatrician today, because our son has strep throat. This is a new pediatrician that we are consulting. We advise her that our son is autistic, then she ask if we where following any therapy for him and we told her yes we are starting to introduce the biomedical approach. She immediately told us to really be careful since none of these procedures are medically approved. That kind of put our hopes down, since we are new and starting with this treatment. She told us that there is no miracle cure for autism. What is your opinion regarding this? Any response will be greatly appreciated since we feel discourage. Guest guest
> > The short answer is get another pediatrician. There are some out there that may know about biomedical treatment but they are few and far between. Get a DAN doc (Defeat Autism Now, they have a site listing these docs) and they will know what you are doing and how to help. I have adoctor who does not know much about treating autism biomedically, but doesnt pretend to know everything and is suppotive because she knows I know my child. Taking away hope is how they get you to do whatever is easiest for them. If you dont have any hope you'll give your kid drugs that will make them fat and lethargic but still autistic. Or it'll be easier to put them in an institution because you think you cant do anything else. Its not that mainstream doctors are bad people, its just a bad system. They cant move a muscle unless it has been written about in a peer reviewed journal and they have to check their common sense at the door. There was a study done recently to prove that kids performed better in school when they had physical activity. This is pure common sense but we needed a study to prove it to us. Remember that this is a country where childhood chronic illness is at epidemic levels, and we have the second highest infact death rate. This should put into perspective the buyer beware nature of healthcare. You're not on your own, because there are many of us out there. Good luck and you wont have any regrets once you get started with biomedical. Its overwhelming but you never run out of things to try. As an interesting aside, I teach law students in the afternoon. The Bar Exam is coming up at the end of February, so most of them are paranoid about getting sick right now. One of my students has had pneumonia for two months. He has been on three courses of what he calls " very strong antibiotics " , but so far he has not been able to kick the pneumonia. I advised him to take OLE. He just sent me an email that he took some OLE and has not coughed or otherwise had any pneumonia symptoms in 24 hours. Good stuff. Guest guest
Dana, if only your law students knew that you also lead a double life as a reknowned Biomed Goddess!!! They would be in awe, I am sure. :-) Rene > As an interesting aside, I teach law students in the afternoon. They would be in awe, I am sure. :-) Well, they are already in awe of me LOL, because I can take any Bar Exam question, even one I have never seen before, and outline it in 15 minutes including detailed rules and approaches, spot issues that they did not see, and finish writing it within the required one-hour time. Most of them ask if there is a way I can take their exam for them =) My morning clients [i do non-jury trials in the morning], just see me as a typical assertive attorney-type, probably on the same level as the proverbial insurance and used-car salesman. Here is yesterday's email from this student: " My wife believes in the olive leaf extract. She says I am better today. " These are mainstream folks, but I give them a lot of credit for trying something alternative, just because the " law professor " mentioned it. Guest guest
Quacks are bad doctors who use mercury to poison their patients - check any good medical dictionary. Presumably this pediatrician is a quack. The word quack gets abused, it is the quacks who are in charge of medicine. I think this thread really epitomizes modern health care, and why all laws and government regulation covering it have to be eliminated. Guest guest
Literally, the term quack comes from quacksalber which is German for quicksilver which is another name for mercury.
