Nevermind! I didn't remember reading it on the Houstonni website but

did find the answer there when I went back- OK, even after the meal.

No problem. The idea of giving enzymes at the beginning of a meal is

to maximize the amount of time they interact with food in the stomach

for the most breakdown. Even giving them after meals is better than

not at all.

As for anyone wondering why some enzyme products say to take after

meals, these are usually pancreatic enzymes (or a product with a

mixture of pancreatic enzymes and microbial enzymes in it). Doctors

may tell you that 'enzymes taken before meals are destroyed in the

stomach and therefore worthless'...but they are thinking of the older,

traditional pancreatic enzymes. Pancreatic enzymes generally rely on

food to buffer them from stomach acid. But microbial enzymes, which

most people here take, aren't affected by stomach acid in that way.
