Guest guest
I've been reading the site and wondering. My son has asthma and autism, and I believe the 2 to be related. We have removed many foods, gluten, casein, soy, egg. We have not completely eliminated corn yet, however we only eat organic corn products. He does not like nuts or tree nuts, therefore does not eat these foods or anything with these foods. We have eliminated all but lemon and pear juices (he receives one 4 oz glass of juice a day to help with supplements. It also is an organic juice. I am certain he reacts to molds so we have tested different organic juices and found one that creates less of a reaction. So basically, of the major food allergens, he has occassional organic corn products. We are on HN enzymes. I have attempted No Fenol 2 seperate times and both times it caused a reaction. I realize the yeast die off thing and all, but the reaction persists. (We are on nystatin and probiotics.) I am certain he is phenol intolerant. I've read that those with environmental allergies may react badly to NoFenol, so one of my next steps was to look at Kirkman enzymes. Are these better for those with severe environmental allergies? We are also on high dose of Vit. C----more for the asthma than the autism. But my gut says something is still missing. I had hoped for some relief from the allergy/asthma symptoms after beginning the food elimination, but it really hasn't happened. He hasn't been able to breathe for 3 years. So...I have looked at these sites. I am looking into purchasing the books, but it appears to be more difficult than I expected to get my hands on the books. I was wondering if anybody had heard of or experienced success following this diet in addition to the GFCFSF diet. I'm also trying to get more info. as to whether to follow this path, or look elsewhere. The book title " Fed Up with Asthma " gives me some hope----but again I would love to hear from others that are GFCF and on the spectrum. I am on the failsafe . It is a little different as it appears to be a diet followed primarily in Australia and England. So it's different in terms of product discussions and the like. Anything that you know about this or the success with chidlren on the spectrum is much appreciated. Also, if you have any knowledge whether or not it would be more beneficial to look into the Feingold rather than the Failsafe program. Thanks so much Crystal >>> Has anybody tried the failsafe diet? I haven't used it personally, but have followed the research on it as well as some families that use it. Did you have any particular questions or concerns about it? It can be effective especially in helping you become aware of various food chemicals, and pinpointing what may be your particular trigger chemicals. A lot of people doing Feingold actually find eliminating certain additional chemicals (ones highlighted by the Failsafe program) is very helpful. For some it is sulfites, for other amines, for others benzoates, etc. And for some people, it is just being aware of the total chemical load they ingest in a given period of time. The main failsafe site is at www.fedupwithfoodadditives.info and Dengate's books. .
