Guest guest Posted February 6, 2006 Report Posted February 6, 2006 Ash - Yeah we love our juicer BUT They are a royal nasty pain to clean (at least ours is) AND you have to make sure you drink whatever you juice right away - otherwise it degrades. I am impressed you've been using it regularly. We can only manage it on weekends when my husband is home!! We have the " Juiceman " and it came with about 8 cassettes and 3 books!! Glad to hear the raw milk experiment is going well Josie You guys have to get a juicer! The combination of this and the natural milk is making a huge difference or at least it has since last Wednesday. Have a great week! Ash Quote

What brand do you have? > > Hi, . Not Ash, but it gets even funnier, because last week, after extensive research, I ordered a juicer for our family, the greatest juicer I could find (it's won prestigious awards around the world): the Green Star. It can do everything from watermelon to wheatgrass, and has some really state-of-the-art features in the revolutionary design of the twin gears and the fact that they have magnets in them which are surrounded with bioceramic material which generates and radiates far infrared energy. If this sounds " far out, " that's just because it's not commonplace yet, but it's cutting-edge technology. In short, it all makes for cooler temperatures, allowing greater enzyme retention of the juice, plus it extracts more mineral nutrients from the produce, and helps keep them in " a suspended colloidal form the body can use, for a longer length of time. " You can read all about it on the web, if you want. The Green Star can also make nut butters, baby food, frozen fruit treats, and all that, plus you can get extra parts for pasta making, etc. I wanted something that would get green leafy vegetables, with all their great bio-available alkaline minerals, into my family without having to steam them (kale, especially), as we're wanting to eat predominantly raw foods. Those really green veggies aren't the most popular for salads, and my guys haven't warmed up to the concept of " krauts " or kim chee. (Which is fine with me, 'cause I'm not ready to take that on, yet! I'm still working up to ordering kefir grains to start making coconut kefir! Anyway, our juicer just arrived--we haven't even tried it, yet (so I can't tell you if it's as quiet as the book claims!)! I found the best price at: http://www.2-life.com/ They're located in Oregon. They didn't publish the price on the internet--you have to email or call--but they were very prompt and very nice, and trust me, I'm an experienced comparison shopper on the web, and I'm very happy with this purchase. (And--just in case anyone's wondering: no, I don't get anything if I send someone to them. It's just a great juicer at a great price [around $350]. With very best wishes, and hoping this helps, Lalita Quote
Guest guest Posted February 7, 2006 Report Posted February 7, 2006 - I got a cheap one. They range in price, but I decided i wasn't able to spend 99 bucks on one. Got one by Hamilton Beach at Wally world for 30 bucks. They also had the Juiceman one for 54 there. I figured I would start out and see if he drank the juices and if we get into it, perhaps upgrade in a year. They are difficult to clean, but I don't mind it at all because the pay off is great!. Just get one of those small bristle brushes to clean off the small fragments of pulp from the blade thingy, it makes it way easier. I definitely recommend it. No more fighting with my child over healthy foods and this way you can get a lot more into them then you could by feeding it at the dinner table. > > > You guys have to get a juicer! > > The combination of this and the natural milk is making a huge > > difference or at least it has since last Wednesday. > > > > Have a great week! > > Ash > > That's so funny. Guest guest Posted March 8, 2006 Report Posted March 8, 2006 Though I am sure they exist, I think it is hard to find ANY kids who had developmental delays of any kind who did not also have reflux/digestive issues as infants (though plenty with reflux who did not have delays). They do go hand in hand. Honestly I think the vocal play explanation is probably a pretty weak one. I think it probably has a lot more to do with immune function and nutritional absorption. An enormous percentage of the immune system is in the gut. FWIW my daughter walked late (17.5 months) and had late onset of expressive speech (31 months) though now speech is one of her biggest skill sets (she'll be 4 in April) and her receptive was always phenomenal. She had terrible reflux and food reactions - and we came to find out, leaky gut and many nutritional deficiencies. When we started treating her immune system as if she were autistic (ie we got a DAN doc, ran tests, supplemented the kitchen sink) she got better. I remember though when she was past two years of age. She couldn't say any real words but she could tell you what all of the letters " said " (ie the sounds the letters make). She had known her letters very early (14 months or so). She could fetch an " A " if you asked her to go get one. And if you asked her what the " A " said she could say " aah aaah aaah " but she could NOT for the life of her say " Ay " . This all changed when we supplemented (fish oil, enzymes, probiotics, - and then later amino acids, antioxidants, Brainchild, MB12 etc etc). Her articulation is amazing now. Better than your 'average' 3-4 year old. Josie Raw Milk Update Oh.... before I forget, can I just throw this in?..How many of your kids had reflux as a baby? Avery had it pretty bad for a full year and I suspect longer. Caused feeding issues and everything. Recently I heard there might be a conncetion between reflux and speech delay. His speech therapist and I discussed that it may have affected vocal play. I think overall he was not developmentally ready to speak until now, but now that he is ready, it's like the sounds are not there because he didn't play with his voice until now. Does that makes sense at all? _____ Quote
Guest guest Posted March 8, 2006 Report Posted March 8, 2006 I followed some of the raw milk discussion but not all of it as I couldn't find any in town and was too busy to participate in everything. Now, my favorite health food store here is carrying raw milk, raw cream and raw colostrum and is going to carry raw cheese soon. I like to try some for me but I am so skidish as I have become really intolerant of milk. Also, how do I make raw milk Kefir. I know that it would defeat the purpose if I heat the milk. I only can get Kefir started and not the grains unfortunately. Any ideas? Thank you, Haleh Quote
Guest guest Posted March 8, 2006 Report Posted March 8, 2006 Hi Haleh, If you don't mind my asking, what health food store will be carrying these products? I ordered some raw milk, raw kefir and raw butter from Organic Pastures. I absolutely loved it! I haven't ordered more because shipping was expensive!(a little over $20!) Hope all is well with you and your family. Guest guest Posted March 8, 2006 Report Posted March 8, 2006 If " vocal play " means just making sounds/using your voice, my son did the most eerie verbal stims from infancy on through age 3 when he became totally nonverbal. He played 18 hours a day with his voice. He couldn't make a word with it til he was well into chelation though. With all due respect to speech pathologists trying to figure all this out, it reminds me of people telling you to not pick up a crying baby because " they need to exercise their lungs. " For us reflux is related to yeast and mine (which caused almost heart attack like pain for 20 years) has disappeared with No Fenol. I can drink straight grapefruit juice even and things that would have landed me practically in the emergency room, if I take No Fenol with everything. This is after 20 years of singlehandedly supporting the company that makes Pepcid AC, and most of the other remedies. I am off all those things now. My kids also have recovered from all their reflux symptoms with No Fenol & AFP peptizyde (I assume because of it treating yeast) and for my daughter, it enabled her to start talking to the point that she's developmentally appropriate (age 5). Guest guest Posted March 8, 2006 Report Posted March 8, 2006 Cornucopia on the northwestern corner of Coffee and Floyd in a little strip mall. They also have a good selection of natural meats and sodium nitrate free stuff, Purity Farm's ghee and alternative sugars like xylitol and date sugar. Guest guest Posted March 9, 2006 Report Posted March 9, 2006 Oh I KNOW DS's reflux was yeast related. Nothing else. He had it from day 1. He would not latch on the breast because of it. A sign of yeast overgrowth. Supposedly nothing feels right in your mouth. My speech therapist didn't mention the reflux connection, she just wa telling me what some people think regarding the connection. She didn't say one way or the other what she believed causes these things, she just said basically " who knows. " I just wanted to see for myself what role it might play. I know another mom in my area who was told there is a connection by her therapist. > > > > Though I am sure they exist, I think it is hard to find ANY kids > who had > > developmental delays of any kind who did not also have > reflux/digestive > > issues as infants (though plenty with reflux who did not have > delays). Guest guest Posted March 9, 2006 Report Posted March 9, 2006 Thanks Haleh! Cornucopia is about 5 minutes from my house! I go there often. Have you checked out Trader Joes at all? They also have a pretty decent selection of meats, etc. Not to mention TONS of organic foods at a fraction of the cost. Guest guest Posted March 10, 2006 Report Posted March 10, 2006 Hi , I do about 85% of our shopping from TJ's and then whatever I don't find something there, I buy at cornucopia. I am trying to support their business and they seem to have a variety of safe sandwich meat (turkey breast) and other smoked stuff that is clean from sodium nitrate and gluten. Between the two stores as well as glutenfreemall.com and missroben.com, I can maintain a very challenging diet that has gotten even more so. Thank you for the thought. I hope you and Drake are doing awesome. Haleh --- tracyrn1329 <tracyrn1329@...> wrote: > Thanks Haleh! > Cornucopia is about 5 minutes from my house! I go there often. Guest guest Posted March 10, 2006 Report Posted March 10, 2006 I have made raw milk kefir & yogurt for years. I get raw milk from OB People's Coop - best organic food market in town! :-) I use glass (Pyrex) dishes to heat the milk so slightly (just about to body temperature - test with finger) so that I do not kill any enzymes and then continue according to follow the instructions on the package (leaving out the bring to boil bit). I have a double oven and only use the standard one so I put the kefir/yogurt in the other oven to culture. Sometimes I will switch on the other oven for a few minutes (not even to reach 135 degrees - the minimum on the dial) to take the chill out of the oven (about 100 degrees) and allow the culture to happen naturally. I seem to be able to make about 4-6 batches (1/2 gallon each batch) before having to use another starter to get a better lot (For the others, I use about 1/2 cup of the cultured kefir as the starter). Everyone that has tasted it loves it. I use 1/2 gallon glass jars to culture it in the oven. Guest guest Posted March 10, 2006 Report Posted March 10, 2006 Hi, Are people taking enzymes until they can handle the raw kefir, or do they often continue both concurrently for some reason? Thanks, Kate > > I have made raw milk kefir & yogurt for years.
