Guest guest Posted March 6, 2006 Report Posted March 6, 2006 We have done this about 4 weeks a go and wow, it has been so wonderful. More alert child, less stimmy, much happier and much better immunity, more connected to the world (perhaps a bit too much now, lol). He used to have cyclical low level viral symptoms. that are just not there anymore. But we are also giving Chisolm lab's Immune Factor #8, a Transfer factor that was developed for ASD children to help with childhood diseases. My son has a very high count of CMV that we are wording off with Immune Factor 8. I loved " High Vitamin A Protocol " and ironically kept putting it off because of fear of toxicity which is very very rare and in the case of symptoms of toxicity, all you do is stop and it just leaves the system. I highly recommend this intervention if your child has the biomarkers of viral issues and regressed after the MMR. Guest guest Posted March 6, 2006 Report Posted March 6, 2006 Do you give this dosage once a day or spread out throughout the day? I have been battling with myself over doing this protocol for weeks now and am close to just going for it. Guest guest Posted March 6, 2006 Report Posted March 6, 2006 The fear of vitamin A toxicity has been extremely overdone in this country. Especially with these kids, who usually eat so few veggies and fish and even vitamin A in milk, and whose fat-soluble vitamin absorption is usually so poor, we should be worrying about vitamin A deficiency instead. When I was a Research Associate at the Division of Nutritional Sciences at Cornell, some of the people were doing epidemiological research in the Philipines...there was a nutritional deficiency problem there called xeropthalmia where the kids went blind from insufficient vitamin A (most of them were too poor or didn't have enough land or education to get even sufficient beta carotene from vegetables). What they started as a program to prevent this totally unnecessary blindness was to give 125,000 units of A every six months to all the children in the study, all in one dose. Because it is a fat-soluble vitamin, it was retained in the system long enough to prevent blindness. Here's a similar study in Rwanda. I would be willing to bet that a lot of these kids, in spite of their poor nutritional status, actually eat more veggies than our picky autistic kids. http://www.unu.edu/unupress/food/8F173e/8F173E0o.htm At one point in my 20s, because of my then undiagnosed primary immune deficiency (which I am beginning to wonder whether it is really primary or induced by the mercury exposures I had as a child), I had recurrent bronchitis six weeks out of ever eight. It seemed like I just couldn't shake it--the doctor told me I had to stop smoking and the only problem with that was, I had never smoked a single cigarette in my life--still haven't. I read Adelle 's book Let's Get Well and started taking 25,000 mg of vitamin A/day in the form of fish oil supplements (then more widely available), and got better. Decades later I did find an abstract proving that a high vitamin A protocol was very helpful for CVID, which I have. And please remember, generations of children were raised on a daily dosage of cod liver oil--often administered, rumor states...by their grandmothers. Guest guest Posted March 6, 2006 Report Posted March 6, 2006 Re-reading your post, I see that your child probably does get some beta-carotene in his veggies and berries. However, many children do NOT metabolize beta-carotene in the same way as real vitamin A (retinol). I would still listen to your doctor; if you are scared to do it, discuss it and you can always give him half as much and it might still help. The idea is to give a loading dose and then a maintenance dose. I don't know about the retinol/ palmitate issue. Also, please be aware that " low mercury " on a hair test is something that is subject to clinical judgment in interpretation. It might mean that your child is unable to excrete mercury even though it is partitioned in the fatty tissues, including the CNS. You know that the calcium you are giving is going in and it probably is going into his bones, we hope, not his hair. Hair tests are a baseline. If you then have a successful chelation protocol or something, you should find a change happening. But many of the common chelation protocols, besides being difficult and risky, don't go through the blood-brain barrier. At the conference I attended last weekend, Boyd Haley, PhD was discussing this and also discussing some new protocols for detoxification that he is working on with vitamin C and glutathione given IV. They are being used already in Europe. They sound very hopeful and non-toxic, BUT toxic metals are toxic as they are coming out. Of course it is always stressed that chelation protocols need a doctor's supervision. Peace, Kathy E. > > Hi everyone, > Posting from Australia. Info, my son's story, and another child's story, here http://www.danasview.net/vitamina.htm > Just incidentally, not sure whether we should have attempted > chelation before commencing Vit A protocol. I did high dose vitamin A near the end of ALA chelation for my son. >>Calcium is non-existent and has been for years in spite of > aggressive supplementation of very good quality calcium. I would guess that the calcium is being absorbed and used, rather than being wasted by excreting thru the hair. So this would be a good sign, at least in my opinion. >>Lots of eye-stims and obsessive > behaviour For my son, both of these were primarily related to virus issues. Guest guest Posted March 6, 2006 Report Posted March 6, 2006 Here is their Phone #. Their website is under renovation they said. 1 800 664-1333 The product is pretty expensive $140 for 30 days, or just under $400 for a 90 day supply Plus shipping. They do send some info on it if you call them and ask for it. They are tiny capsules that come with ice and have to be refrigerated or put in the freezer. I plan to put the next batch in the freezer as the powder in the capsule got somewhat sticky in the refrigerator and because my son doesn't take pills and I put it in his juice. It would be better however, to open and mix in a teaspoon of apple sauce but my child never lets me put anything in his mouth. Guest guest Posted March 6, 2006 Report Posted March 6, 2006 Since my child is only 32 lbs we gave it in two juices, breakfast and lunch in the same day 200,000 iu (40 drops of Mycellized vitamin A , 5,000 iu per drops) each for two days. We stop the Cod Liver oil on those two days. Then waited a week and started him on maintenance dose which for my son is only 10,000 iu or two drops. Guest guest Posted March 6, 2006 Report Posted March 6, 2006 Thanks to all have who have posted such excellent advice re the high Vit A protocol. Much to think about but I think our family is ready to start (probably this weekend). Dana and Kathleen, re the calcium being absorbed: just got results back from a 24 hour calcium excretion test shows next to nothing coming out (0.5 mmol/ 24hr - normal is 2.5-7.5). Creatinine excretion was also barely noticeable, a sign presumably that my boy doesn't absorb protein that well in spite of getting three meals a day of protein (usually organic lamb, beef or turkey). Dr Yasko says some interesting things re calcium and high levels of glutamate or more particularly some children's problem of breaking down glutamate. It's all a mystery, but we'll battle on. Bless you all for your support and help. > > Could anyone tell me please if they've done this treatment and what > > effects (positive or negative) they had. > > > Info, my son's story, and another child's story, here > > http://www.danasview.net/vitamina.htm > > > > Just incidentally, not sure whether we should have attempted > > chelation before commencing Vit A protocol. > > > I did high dose vitamin A near the end of ALA chelation for my son. > > > >>Calcium is non-existent and has been for years in spite of > > aggressive supplementation of very good quality calcium. > > > I would guess that the calcium is being absorbed and used, rather than > being wasted by excreting thru the hair. Dr. McCandless has speculated that giving it as one dose, or at most two, each day is probably more effective. Dana Quote
