Guest guest
Hi, I have limited experience with the whole thing, but will glad to share, and others will surely chime in/pls correct me if I am wrong on any of this stuff.... You can buy the Vira Stop (by Enzymedica) at your health food store (hfs), but it's pricier there than on some online sources, just do a search. It's an enzyme product which battles viruses in the body, but in a gentler way than OLE does (right??) or with lesser side effects (less yeast and it eats up the viral walls right???) OLE stands for Olive Leaf Extract, and you can get that also at your hfs, it's not that expensive. There are many brands of this out there, and when you are deciding which one to get you need to go with the one with the least fillers/other stuff added into it because our kids are already sensitive to a lot of things, which may include some fillers. Anyhow, I did not have, I don't think, any issues with this yet in the case of OLE. But what happened and how I started my viral treatment was actually an accident. i have read a little bit about this on this board and my first biomed measure was gonna be a yeast protocol, since a lot of the autistic issues seem to be related to it, that's what i have been reading, and now I am slowly able to read my son better and associate better the symptoms I see with what may be going on inside him. My son is 4 and non-verbal, so I know how it is when they can't tell you what's going on.... Anyhow, I wanted a yeast protocol before I begun anything else, and I already was giving him Culturelle, which is a probiotic, a good one I believe. It does have a little casein in it, which may be an issue for some kids, I am not sure about mine yet, but will test and see soon. In the meantime, I am using it. I was also looking for a multistrain probiotic, which you can find at your hfs also, usually better if refrigerated, and again, look for things that are hypoallergenic (right??). Anyhow, I went online also and started looking for things that are out there for yeast without an rx. I used Kirmanlabs.com vitamins before, so I went and checked their site and I found this product called " Yeast Aid " , which is a mixture of a couple of things designed to fight yeast. At that time I did not know it had OLE in it also, and what OLE can do. I started pulling viruses with this Yeast Aid thing and I know one was eliminated after a week or so using it (my son's been showing cold-like symptoms and then vomitted 2-3 times over three days), and that was the end of the first virus. I immediately started to see improvement in toileting at school, and other cognitive gains/change in stims to horizontal lining up, which was much more managable for us than the towers.... and he wasn't as agitated as before when things did not go his way. I had also noticed increased yeast b/c OLE kicks up yeast, so that's when i added the multistrain probiotic, the no-fenol (by Houston enzymes) between meals, and biotin, and also Candidase later, which is another enzyme product by Enzymedica which digests yeast (needs to be given in between meals). Seeing the gains with OLE, I continued to give it to him in smaller doses so that yeast is more managable for me. When my son has high yeast, one thing I know now is that he spits a lot, and he gets thrush in his mouth, his fingers are in his mouth, and he may get constipated also. I also had him on GSE with no-fenol, with GSE standing for grapefruit seed extract, which is a very potent yeast killer, but tends to stir up other issues as well, and I just did not want to " work on " too many things at one time. I just took my son off this one b/c he was developing diarrhea a few times and it may have been just too aggressive on him, i am not sure yet, but I am giving it a break for now. I am also adding other digestive enzymes to his diet gradually and I have seen an expanding appetite in my little guy which could not please me more!!!! Over the past three weeks I suspected I may be pulling more viruses cold like sypmtoms, rash returning, new rash on chest and body) and at the same time symptoms of terrible allergies (red eyes and all of that) I did and do not know for sure if all of these things going on with him are all viral or allergy related, but it may be both, so wanted to help his body with both the allergies and the viruses. I added the ViraStop enzyme and started Claritin a week later. I guess my first great gain with the Virastop is the elimination of the lining up behavior, which was so prevalent over the past 4 to 6 weeks, and I just have a hard time believing that it's true, it's gone! Just like that, he was lining up yesterday, but not today, no more, zero. I should perhaps wait a few more days to get this confirmed by more observation, but even if it will be back I will know why it's back and how to help it (viral protocol, OLE, and ViraStop). But I am telling ya' I am still in disbelief, that is why I asked this groups to tell me if any of this can be explained, or if they have seen something like this before. I am just AMAZED!!!!!!! regarding allergies, some people have used OLE for that also, but I am not experienced with this as much. I continue to give my son OLE no matter what b/c I see good changes in him almost every day :-) little tiny steps, you know, but they add up, and they help him move along whatever pace this is going at, I like what I am seeing very much!! I don't mind if it's slow because it is safe and the side effects are so minimal if you do things this way... The one setback we have had also were allergies, about 3 weeks ago since the start of the allergy season here in Ohio. My son still does not sleep b/c his eyes are red and puffy and itchy, but we started him on claritin just to get some relief in the meantime. I am going to have him tested for allergies traditionally and hoping to get my hubby agree to another course of NAET treatments for allergy ellimination, which you can read more about on www.naet.com. On the Claritin, the red eyes and swollenness and itchiness got better during the day but the nights are real tough as he wakes from being congested also, and then he stays up for hours.... again, at this point I am not sure if it is also a viral pull or allergies only. Either way I am going to keep my supplements the same so that I can support his body in whatever he is dealing with right now. i am in the process of perhaps going GFCF as that may eliminate a huge load on the immune system so that he can fight the rest of everything else better, incl. environmental allergies such as pollen, etc. The whole thing just makes sense to me, everything is connected.... If you decide to start OLE, you need to have a yeast protocol for that because OLE will increase yeast... I also don't think there's anything wrong in trying Claritin or a similar product just to help your child in the meantime while you are looking into the causes of his discomfort. Belly pain could be caused by many things, but I know that my son has had a lot of GI related problems, like constipation, food allergies over the years.... the diet and allergy elliminations helped him greatly, but not overnight... I really hope this helps. I am still quite new here but I have had so much support from this group here. You can always post your concerns and questions here and people will be very willing to help/share their experience. Good luck with all!!!! --------------------------------- New Messenger with Voice.
