Guest guest Posted August 18, 2006 Report Posted August 18, 2006 An electrolyte solution with sulfur?? I'm curious what that is - what form of sulfur was in it? Obviously you don't want to use it. Has she been tested for heavy metals? If she is toxic, then chelation might eventually increase her tolerance of sulfur. Depends on whether the symptoms are more due to heavy metals being mobilized by sulfur and causing symptoms, or a genetic issue with sulfur metabolism, or some of each. You might want to check her plasma cysteine to determine appropriate use or restriction of sulfur foods and supplements. -- > > I introduced an electrolyte solution over a period of 3 days and may > daughter was up all those nights for extended periods of time. Guest guest Posted August 18, 2006 Report Posted August 18, 2006 Thanks. It was KTS standard. It was chloride 77 mg, magnesium 14 mg, phosphorus 229 mg, potassium 137 mg and sodium 64 mg. All of those were a variety of chloride forms, sulfate forms, phosphate forms, and bicarbonates. It had distilled water, bicarbonate and sulfur. I gave 1 tsp first dose, 2 tsp second dose, 2 tsp 3rd dose. During the day her behaviors seemed fine, even moments of exceptional, she did have these strange " biting behaviors " that seemed to start up (she would do a playful, yet annoying biting - kind of clenching her teeth on us in a silly way) and she had some tantruming that seemed more intense. At night she was up all night, talking, laughing, etc - almost yeasty or phenolic but her yeast has been well controlled and the enzymes have helped with phenol behaviors so I though it could be the sulfur. And then when I stopped the sleep seemed immediately improved and slowly the biting behavior seems to be decreasing too. Thanks for any information. Wondering if I need to give her more sulfur because of this problem or supplement to support this pathway or what????!!! We are not chelating and wondering if she would even tolerate it since they are all sulfur based (right??). Guest guest Posted August 18, 2006 Report Posted August 18, 2006 We did test for heavy metals in blood and urine. I am not good at intrepreting test results but from what our DAN said I assumed she was toxic. Lead was most notable, showed up on her blood test (toxic elements in red blood cells). However, she was excreting on her test which I thought was interesting. She had tons of lead coming out (in her urine) and that was without any chelation agents or anything. (lead was in the yellow I believe, the middle column), she was also dumping a little bit of mercury. She had antimony, aresnic, bismuth, lead, copper, etc coming out in her stool - so they are inthere but excreting -which is good right? Her metabolism is really screwy, she has a very bad gut (yeast/bacteria). SHe has low IgA, all the autoimmune issues. She ismineral deficient. She is sensitive to everything - from having a reaction to eating an apple to dumping ammonia in her urine 8 weeks into SCD (the diet is heavy on protein and so even that is now toxic!). ON her serum amino acid quantitation her cystine (not cysteine?? are they the same??) was 55 with a reference of 54, it is flagged. So not sure if that would actually be high or just indicate not being used properly?? When I look at the graph her cystine looks low (or would that be normal) she has big spikes on taurine and glutamine (huge spike) and 2 AEC is huge spike, phosphoserine is flagged. Her homocystine was low. I " ve never looked at that before really. Anywya, guess that isa different conversation...Thanks! Guest guest Posted August 19, 2006 Report Posted August 19, 2006 Jen, Ingredients can be found here: http://www.kt-solutions.com/Products/PeltierElectrolytes.html It has some magnesium sulfate. I have heard of kids getting hyper from epsom salt baths (magnesium sulfate), so this is a possibility. I'm not sure if they are usually reacting to the sulfate or the magnesium when this happens - maybe someone else knows. Has she reacted to epsom salts before? Kids with this problem may still benefit from epsom salts, but have to start with very low doses (of epsom salts, not the KTS Standard). It also has " sulfur " listed in " other ingredients " . No indication of what type or how much. This makes me a bit more suspicious. If it is sulfur in a single thiol molecule, that could cause a hyper reaction, too. I don't know if a change in electrolyte balance could have this effect. Maybe someone else knows. The sulfur in chelators is different and will not cause the same problems as long as it is given correctly (in low, frequent doses according to the protocol described in the FILES section). -- > > > > > > I introduced an electrolyte solution over a period of 3 days > > > > > > > > What were all the ingredients, and doses, in the electrolyte > solution? > > > > J > > > > > > > > > > and may > > > daughter was up all those nights for extended periods of time. > I took > > > it out and her sleep improved. Guest guest Posted August 19, 2006 Report Posted August 19, 2006 We do give her epsom salt baths. She does seem to have a reaction - I think it is helping her process things out of her system - it is kind of a hyperness as she is falling asleep - chatty, etc but then she sleeps well through the night. Maybe kind of like when I give her no-fenol or yeast treatments - when it is high (yeast) and I give her the treatments she seems to get a rush of it as it dies-off (so she may get stimmy during meals or something like that), does that make sense. I haven't wanted to cut out the baths since it hasn't disturbed her sleep. Thanks. Guest guest Posted August 19, 2006 Report Posted August 19, 2006 No dye or flavorings. Does anyone know of an electrolyte solution without sulfur. I think she may benefit from the electrolytes. The sulfur may be a bit much in that form anyway, for now. What do people think of TTFD? It seems she may really need the sulfur if she is reacting that way to it in a solution?? Thanks. Her mineral absorption is so poor right now that I don't think I could chelate her, her gut is really bad! Jen - > > > > Thanks. It was KTS standard. Guest guest Posted August 19, 2006 Report Posted August 19, 2006 Sounds like the overall reaction to the baths is positive and you are probably fine with the amount you are using. For some kids, it is a more extreme hyperness and they have to start with a very small amount of epsom salts. The reaction to the electrolytes may be the other form of sulfur in it. You can make your own electrolyte drinks (lots cheaper, too). I found a recipe in the archives: http://onibasu.com/archives/am/175936.html I would use a good quality sea salt rather than ordinary table salt. Potassium chloride is " salt substitute " that you can buy in most grocery stores. You can find other recipes with a google search. -- > > > > > > > > > > I introduced an electrolyte solution over a period of 3 days > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > What were all the ingredients, and doses, in the electrolyte > > > solution? > > > > > > > > J > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > and may > > > > > daughter was up all those nights for extended periods of > time. > > > I took > > > > > it out and her sleep improved. Guest guest Posted August 19, 2006 Report Posted August 19, 2006 There is lots of discussion of TTFD in the archives. Here is one post on the subject: http://onibasu.com/archives/am/166644.html -- > > > > > > Thanks. It was KTS standard. Guest guest Posted August 23, 2006 Report Posted August 23, 2006 I am sulfur intolerant. I must have missed an applicable email so sorry for the following question. Is the SCD electrolyte solution suppose to help someone with sulfur intolerance? Thanks for any additional information. Best wishes, Sam.
