HELP! Homework issue

I have a 12-year-old ADHD, AS son. He started 7th grade this year. From the

beginning, I would ask him every day if he had homework. His answer was always

no; he got it done at school, there wasn't homework that day, whatever. I work

full-time, an hour away from home. So I don't get there until 6 and often have

other things that have to be done once I get home. I just trusted him. Then, I

started hearing from his teachers that things just weren't being turned in. We

finally figured out that he was feeling overwhelmed with the amount of homework,

so we told him not to worry about past assignments, just to concentrate on

current ones. To make sure everything got in and that to get at least a C from

that point forward. It worked for a couple of weeks. But then it started again.

He finished the quarter with an F, two Ds, and a collection of Cs. He only had

one B, in art. Today, I got a call from his counselor. He has Fs in everything,

except Art, where he has a D. He calls me

every day before he gets on the bus to go home. I ask each day about his

homework and he tells me he only has a little - that, of course, gets done

before I get home - or that he turned it in at school, whatever. I am at my wits

end. When he turns in his homework, he gets As. He just doesn't turn in homework

very often. And I just don't have any more ideas of ways to help him with this

problem. Any suggestions would be welcome.

Thank you,

~MJ
