Guest guest Posted August 7, 2006 Report Posted August 7, 2006 Last yesr my daughter wouldn't do class work in school so she would bring so much home Next year I am going to do the 1/2 an hour homework but no tv if she doesn't finish I guess then she will never finish. It is kid of like this manipulation game she plays with me If she yells long enuogh and hard enough I will send her to her to her room for the night And she will get away without doing work. Her brother has special needs too but she sucks up all my attention and energy. This summer I stoped having her do any reading or writing and things are ok I just couldn't handle the additude. And the kicker is all this work that she'll be working on for hours she can finish in 5 minutes if she wants to. Her writing is horible but if she wants to itcan be really neat she just preveres to make life hell for everyone around her insted of doing a little work and having fun. I would really like to get someone to come in the house and do the homework with her. Oh yeah my daughter is 7 and my son is 3 1/2 my son has apraxia and is being tested for other stuff and my daughters latesd diagnosis is asperger syndrom. Thank you all for being here. Quote
Guest guest Posted August 8, 2006 Report Posted August 8, 2006 I can relate to to this! Spend 1 hour fussing & doing nothing and then 10 minutes to do the work. Grrr! Here's what we did/are doing: My son's parapro reminds him in school that if he doesn't do the work in class he'll have to do it at home. I have an exact time for homework, no delays, not 'after this show'. Homework first, then fun. Stay calm. I use my monotone voice and say " , I'm starting to get angry that you are not starting your homework, please don't make me ground you " . Believe it or not, sometimes that works. If he chooses to not do the work, he loses his privleges (tv, games, whatever) and still has to do the work the next day or on the weekend - even if he's missed the deadline for turning it in. He sure knows he isn't going to get out of doing it! Pick your battles. My son's writing is horrid. I'm convinced that it's not lazyness or anything like that. I really think he struggles with staying in the lines - can't get it from the brain to the hand or something. If his punction and spelling is good, I don't care what it looks like. Who writes on paper nowadays anyway? This is the computer age! I'm teaching him how to type and he is getting through his writing assignments much easier now. Of course, I talked with the school about this alternative and they agreed it was a good idea. I don't believe he is pushing my buttons. I think he just gets stuck on the fact that he doesn't want to do it and all that logic I throw at him doesn't penetrate. I have seen him act surprised when he finished an assignment quickly, saw how easy it was and has all that free time. Duh! Didn't I just say that? Kids! Mom to , age 11. > > Last yesr my daughter wouldn't do class work in school so she would > bring so much home Next year I am going to do the 1/2 an hour homework > but no tv if she doesn't finish I guess then she will never finish.
