I agree .

I also agree that this first show was a prelude for more shows. Autism is

just now becoming " mainstream " and the reputation of Autism is what we saw

today on Oprah.

I too wish they had done some on Asperger's, but, at least the word is now

really getting out about this. Hopefully this will launch even more shows,

more studies, and more awareness, where as Asperger's will also come to the

public.

and I watched it together. She said she wants to write to

Oprah and tell her to do a show on kids with Asperger's syndrome,

because she's nothing like any of the kids on that show, and she's

autistic too!

At the same time, I think she did learn a lot from it... I asked her

to watch closely that 8 year old girl having the tantrum at the

playground, and ask her how her mother must feel... And then reminded

her of yesterday... She got very quiet and suddenly needed a snack.

And for yet a third perspective... Oprah herself said she was amazed

at herself for never having done a show on such a prevalent disorder.

Perhaps that means this was the bare basics intro, and she'll do more

in the future.

We can only hope.

Hi ..i wish that some of the shows that are doing Autism Awareness that they

would cover Asperger's also. I think that when most people think of Autism they

think of the children that they show on every show. I would like to see our

children represented a little more.

I think has a very good idea about writing to Oprah, maybe that will

inspire her to have another show about the other areas of the spectrum.

It sounds like she did learn something from it, that's good to hear! I tried

to get my kids to watch it, but h was napping because she's not

feeling well and Trey....well, Trey was off busy being Trey lol Cory did

watch it, off and on, he has ADHD so it was a bit long for his attention

span, but he did try so I gotta give him credit lol

I agree .

I still think little had a great idea. I am going to write Oprah and

see if I can get Trey to write a little letter too in his own words. Maybe

if we all write she will do it. I'm sure there are others all over who are

feeling the same way.

I watched it last night and again online. That was really a great piece. My

son still has not gotten to Middle School (hes only 6). But I see my little guy

in those boys. It makes my heart break for him even more. However, he is such

a joy. He still doesnt understand or get hurt by the other kids that I know

tease him. It happened again today, but it was just another sentence about his

day to him. Our kids are sooooo amazing.

I agree. My daughter was dx'ed with autism, not

Aspergers, but speaks well and appears normal much of

the time... at least at her age. It seems that the

show did not show the spectrum as it really is... with

children who vary widely.

I was very excited to see the topic for Oprah's show today, but was

also disappointed that she did not include Aspergers. I hope that she

will eventually do a show about the struggles we have, which are very

different than what was shown on the show today. I did go to the

Oprah website to see if there was a way to email her and there is.

You can send your story in to the producers. Maybe if enough of us do

this, she will do a show on Aspergers. www2.oprah.com

I thought the Oprah show was ok. I thought it was interesting how some of the

mom's said when they go out into public people are judgemental and that's been

very true for us. We get out all the time and I have learned to deal with

people. People are against what they do not understand. No one knows what we do

on a daily basis and how we strieve each day for that improvement that our

children make. They are so special to us and we love them that's why we do what

we have to in order to help them have a brighter and happier life.

,

You have a great idea! Let's encourage our members to write Oprah's producers

asking them to highlight Aspergers on a show. So many people watch Oprah, it

would be a great way to educate America on our AS issues.

I haven't seen it yet but am going to watch her at 1AM. Sounds

disappointing though.. and I'm with you, I HATE the way she always

interrupts everyone, and it's usually at the high point or most

emotional point of their statement!!! ARGH!!

Oh LMAO!!! I've noticed that before, there's some kind of crease

running down that side of her face too. LOL, but don't get me wrong,

I like Oprah.

I agree!! If I have Aspergers (and I probably do) I'd sure like to

let people in the world know that it DOES exist and it can be a

problem for us. It would be nice to have people be a little more

understanding of my weird ways, LOL. But more importantly for all of

the kids who will suffer with the same issues growing up.

OMG, I'm crying here... I can see similarities to my daughter in both

these first two boys. They way she walks, some of her speech delivery...
