You may want to try posting in the Exceptional parent search and

respond section.

They are located at www.eparent.com

I was on a group long ago where a family did this, not far away but

the same town to a group home for their daughter, age was 8-10,

forget which actually.

She did end up writing a story and it got published in Exceptional

Parent magazine - called and the Group home. I was not a

subscriber at the time and I got a copy of it in my briefcase.

When I figure out which one it is and how to cut and paste the thing,

I will share it here.

PS - Google search works for lots of things, do some searches about

group homes, mention the state, also residential treatment, and also

look under for the state and see if there is a group for

parents to learn more.

Good luck

-The story is very long and I have no idea how to get the file added,

plus it looks like members cannot access that to add a file.

Here is some data, maybe you can contact Exceptional parent and get a

copy of this edition.

Exceptional Parent magazine - March 2002, by Phyllis Donovan

and the Group Home

pages 26-32

www.eparent.com

If there is interest I can cut and paste this into a posting here,

let me know if that is allowed since it is several pages.

  • 1 year later...

Hello,

We may need some initial inpatient treatment for our son, who is 17

y/o and recently diagnosed with Aspergers. Does anyone know of any

particular programs?

Thank you.

We sent our daughter to a Residential treatment/aducation component program

in Utah. She was 12, extremely bright, and in very bad emotional shape: AS

coupled with deep depression. They have a program for boys also. She was there

for

13 months. I cannot say she is " cured " , we all know that Aspies will be

Aspies for ever, she has her bad days but now she knows to manage her issues and

we all know that we must go day by day. She learned techniques to manage her

behaviour, her anger and compulsions. They have therapy (group and individual),

also equine therapy, life skills, voluntary work, arts, etc. We went to visit

the place first and we found that it was worth to try. At that point we had no

where to turn. http://www.integrityhousertc.com/program.html

I hope you can go and check this place.

Good luck.

Ana
