I forgot to mention, I really can't afford to do the testing on my

own, because of money issues. I am having a hard enough time being

able to afford the enzymes. Thanks

We did have a viral panel done and our insurance company paid for it. It also

paid for our heavy metals test. I think our doctor may have coded it as a

metabolic disorder instead of autism, but it was covered under insurance.

We have also been able to get some of the labs used to do these tests added to

our network because we could show that there wasn't another lab of its kind

within a 50 mile radius. We also got doctors added this way.

Thanks for this information.

How can I go about trying to find out if there is a lab that does

this kind of testing in my area?

We called our insurance provider and asked what labs were in our network. Then

explained that the testing needed to be done in a very specific way and that it

needed to be a lab that worked with autism.

Of course we are so rural there was nothing in a 50-mile radius. The doctor

ordering your tests might be able to help by requesting certain labs for the

tests. The best thing is to contact your insurance company, explain the

situation and see if they will work with you.

By chance I got a representative who had someone in her family with autism so

she was pretty understanding.

Good luck,

Not usually, but you can always ask.

You can order a hair test [for metals and elements] thru DLS, if you

can't get your doctor to order it for you.
