Guest guest Posted September 18, 2004 Report Posted September 18, 2004 Wow Missy, they are big boys Is it trouble getting to sleep or staying asleep? Mandi in UK who also has big boys Ok, with all the discussion about zinc helping to achieve sleep I would like some info about dosage. I have a 73lbs 5yr old, a 134lb 13yr old and a 200lb 15 yr old(he is 6'2) and they all have sleep issues as does my 34lbs 3yr old. They are all on the autism spectrum as well. I would like to try it and would like dosing info as well as the best form to use. Quote

Guest guest Posted September 18, 2004 Report Posted September 18, 2004 Here is some info about zinc that I found on healthy.net. USRDA is: 1-10 years 10 mg 11 and over 15 mg pregnant women 20-25 mg lactating women 25-30 mg This is for a HEALTHY individual. They said zinc is " fairly non-toxic " less than 100-150mg elemental zinc/day. They also said 2 grams will induce vomiting! The DAN! we were seeing put my son on 30mg (he's 2.8yrs, and 30 lbs) but I have heard some say this was way too much! FYI they also said women on birth control need more zinc and B6. Don't know if any of that helped. I haven't done a lot of research on it yet, and my son is currently not taking any. If you have the time, there is TONS of info on the net. Do a search for " zinc autism " and you will be surprised at how much is pulled up. Quote
Guest guest Posted September 18, 2004 Report Posted September 18, 2004 Hi Missy, I remember you from way back on GFCF board. The general rule for zinc is 1 mg per 1 lb. This should work for the 3 and 5 year old, though it sounds too high for the older boys. Some DAN docs will do 20 mg over the child's weight. Hope this helps some. Janelle Quote
