Guest guest
Hi Kay, My sympathies! We have been using Nightcal for what seems like forever. We too suffered with the teeth grinding. Poor is having such a tough time trying to keep the liquid stable, he really has tried hard. Anyway, ages ago made me aware that the grinding was probably a calcium shortage not a magnesium shortage as I had previously believed. The nightcal sorted the problem out. Armed with that knowledge I have gone back to using Kirkmans calcium powder and magnesum capsules as I was using this pre nightcal. The calcium is not the best as it is 75% carbonate and 25% citrate. However, for the amount needs we could not get enough citrate into him as it has a larger bulk. Plus, we found that the citrate by itself has a very grainy texture which is not very nice. If it is any help to you at all, we are using quarter teaspoon calcium powder three times a day. As we use Brainchild minerals and also a little epsom salt cream a day I only use the tiniest amount of magnesium with his bedtime drink (and I do mean tiny!). The main difference is that Kirkmans recommend taking the calcium with food. He gets two with snacks but I do not give him food with his bedtime drink. At the moment I can say that we seem to be pretty stable. Just occasionally I hear the slightest grinding but when I do I just cut out the magnesium in his last drink. Hope this might help you. Guest guest
Hello everyone I have just phoned my supplier (I'm a UK resident) for a re-order of nightcal, to be told that it has been discontinued due to a problem with stability of the product. I'm a big fan of this product. My 4 yr old boy has been taking it for a year now and I'd forggotten what teeth grinding was. It also seemed to help with his anxiety. There's a lot of us nightcal users out there and I wondered what people were using as a substitute until Lang is able to sort the problem out. Soon I hope Thanks Kay
Guest guest
Hi Thanks for your reply. I'll have a look at the Kirkman's product. Does anyone know if this is a glitch that intends to sort out or has the product been abandoned ... Terri? Thanks again Kay > Hi Kay, > > My sympathies! Guest guest
Hi Kay, Sadly, this is true. We have discontinued NightCal for now. We also love, love, love this product and we're disappointed that it was so difficult to stabilize it. We are presently testing each form of calcium we buy to try to figure out which may have been causing the problems. We are going to work on making a calcium powder product within the month which you can use as a replacement until we figure out how to make a really stable liquid calcium again. Your distributor in the UK will have this product pretty soon. We are not experiencing these problems with any other products. In the meantime, I'm afraid you'll have to find other sources. My suggestion is to buy the " good " brands, avoid carbonates and citrates as much as you can. Also, ask for a certificate showing the lead content of any calcium product you buy. I don't believe there's any such thing as calcium that's completely free of lead, but you'd be surprised how high it is in lots of products. Look for the lowest you can find. You want to give just a little magnesium with your large dose of calcium, to help the calcium absorb. Ascorbate and glycinate and aspartate are pretty good forms, and I'm sure there are other good ones too. I'll keep you posted when we have a calcium product ready to sell again. Please accept our deepest apologies for any difficulty this causes you and your child. We went through three very painful and expensive reformulations of it before finally giving up on doing a liquid form for the moment.
