I have already bought a new one to trade out in a couple of days. Dr. noted today that DD sucks her thumb and wonders if there are some hardy strep germs harbored in her nail. She suggested that we use a surgical scrub brush and dial soap each night on the thumb. I thought that was a good idea. > If you want to continue to see your doctor, you could try the > following to convince her enzymes are more " mainstream " : > These are good ideas. My sister is a child psychologist and is friends with another ped in the group. I was thinking that I could mail him the literature and make an appointment. He is a good ped., too, and I already have a personal relationship with him through my sister. >I would > ask her that even if she still doesn't approve of enzymes, could she > please put those articles in your child's medical file along with a > note that your request was denied in spite of improvements from > enzyme use at home. This is a great suggestion! Thank your for taking time to answer my post. This is a great board. I wish more parents in my area with SID and ADD kids would consider enzymes. Guest guest
Perhaps Duracef, which is a cephlasporin? I've not used it, but have heard of it. We've used Omicef, I'm guessing it's quite similar. Sometimes a cephlasporin does the trick when amoxicillin/penicillin/augmentin has not. Hope it works. If not, I've read several accounts by parents that after everything else, they find that moving on to Zithromax works. We have not had to use Zithromax yet (knock on wood). Usually, penicillin, amoxicillin or a cephlasporin does it. Then I follow-up with probiotics. I was happy I remembered to throw out the toothbrush, but then my son got strep again almost immediately. I later realized I had not rotated out the cup he rinses with in the bathroom at the right time (should do it a few days after being on antibiotics). Now we use throw-away " Dixie " cups - at least for now. I also bought a bunch of cheap toothbrushes and little tubes of toothpaste and plan to throw them out every week until strep season is over. Good luck with this, not fun! > > > First, regarding the strep, are you using the same antibiotic each > > time? > > We are on our 3rd different antibiotic. Guest guest
I put out Dixie cups Sunday. I also found out that DH has taught DD to put her mouth under the running faucet to rinse after brushing her teeth and to get a drink of water before bed. No wonder we all had strep the last time around! I put a stop to that, too. Ann Now we use > throw-away " Dixie " cups - at least for now.
