Guest guest
I have been procrastinating on a CLO order trying to figure out which Nordic Naturals formula to use. This will be the fist time we are using a CLO with " naturally occurring vit A, " and I am confused as to how much/which formula to try. I spoke to the customer service person at Nordic, who would not give me info on the formulas I was interested in, as she said those were the " professional formulas, " so I would need to have my doctor recommend the amount. My son is 3YO/30 lbs and his doctor wants him on a " high vit A protocol. " We are using 3t./3X day of the Brainchild Spectrum II, which contains 3,000 IUs of naturally occurring vit. A. I had been giving my son CLO capsules that contained 2,500 IU of added vit. A and 100 mg EPA/65 mg DHA. I was also giving an additional EPA/DHA capsule that contained 300 mg EPA/200 mg DHA. I am getting tired, lazy and burned out, and sick of being charged $125 phone consult from my DAN doctor for a question like this one, so please someone tell me what formula and dose of Nordic CLO you would suggest based on a " high vit. A objective, " and whether or not I also need to give an additional EPA/DHA capsule when using the Nordic CLO!!! -
Guest guest
, I just heard Dr. Megson, Dev. Ped., speak on Saturday at a Complementary & Alternative Medicine Conference. Her topic was " Why CLO " . She stated that a standard does for a child 2-5 yrs. of age is 2500 I.U. of Cod Liver Oil (approx 1/2 tsp./day). For kids 6-12, she said 5000 I.U. (1 tsp/day). EPA & DHA are different. Don't include them in your calc for Vit. A. I'm planning to order some CLO now that I've heard her presentation, but have not done so yet. She said to be sure that the CLO is third- party tested for PCBs, Mercury and something else??? EPA and DHA are a separate issue. Most autistic kids are low in both. Omega 3 & 6 also came up. Omega 3 & Omega 6 compete, so if your child is low in Omega 6, you need to supplement that first, until that level is elevated to normal, before adding in Omega 3 (per Dr. Walsh, Pfeiffer Treatment Center) That's all I can help you with. > My son is 3YO/30 lbs and his doctor wants him on a " high vit A > protocol. Guest guest
I'm not an expert on fatty acids. My son was low in EPA, so I have used Nordic EPA formula for him and also DHA formula. He doesn't tolerate CLO (gets goofy on it). We give him a little micellized vitamin A from time to time instead. Don't count on the carotenoids in the Brainchild to convert to vitamin A, because our kids' bodies may not be able to do this conversion, due to mercury damage and other dysfunctions. What you're giving now sounds pretty good to me. Sorry not to be more help.
