I have, that's for sure. My son, who is not autistic but has some obvious

delays, intolerances, etc. had the quick skin prick for 10 foods and didn't

immediately react to any of them. Three weeks later, he had us come in for a

" milk challenge " and proceeded to give him very small amounts of whole milk

every

15 minutes. While I, sitting in the room the whole time, could see his skin

start to react, his cheeks and ears start to get red, and start to heat up -

the doctor on the other hand, would peek his head in and say " well, no welts or

hives yet.... " .

We went home and of course his skin continued to worsen. He had a seizure

that night with 106 fever and was not sick or any symptoms before

that....hmmmm....always wondered about that. Of course, they all just said

" virus, virus,

virus " .

Hi ,

I hear you!!!!!All day I have had to deal with a doctor who is killing my

mother by the multiple layering of meds he has her on.I really want to sue

the pants off of him but I have no legal recourse at this point in time.

I'm so sorry you had such a miserable visit. It really stinks when

it happens -- and it's happened to me several times. I'm the type

who goes back -- whether for another visit or through a letter -- to

clarify my position and use the opportunity to educate the doctor.

This has NEVER worked to my benefit or had any effect in satisfying

me. The doc has NEVER " given in " or come to any understanding

whatsoever of what I'm saying or trying to do.

Now I just live through the insomnia and churning stomach acids,

knowing it will eventually take a backseat to my more productive

obsession of healing my son.

Wish I could be more positive.

The milk challenge story sounds familiar! I've learned, that as soon as I see

red lips and ears, that respiratory problems will surface so I've taken to

giving Benadryl at the first sign of allergic reaction. I had to do it so much

at one point in our lives, that's how I found out that Benadryl dramatically

changes how my son behaves...almost NT! It's funny and sad at the same time.

I'm on my fourth allergist, BTW. Most of them know practically nothing about

immunology, and I think that's the real issue here. My son showed a mild wheal

for everything, including the control! Two of the allergists I saw told me that

they thoroughly believed every word I said but that there was simply no test to

confirm it, because it was a different type of allergy, or maybe some sort of

intolerance. They told me to challenge with foods VERY CAUTIOUSLY, and that I

would have to figure out what was a problem and what wasn't. Allergy testing,

for us, has been a waste of time and money, but I may have to do it again soon

because my son has allergic enteropathy. I might resort to the Great Plains

test.

---The problem I have with allergy testing is that it only shows if

they have a histamine reaction. Most of these kids lack enzymes (in

ability to break down certain foods properly) and not a histamine

reaction. We did the skin test and blood test...that came back

contradictory to each other. But he had already done a GI scope

that showed he lacked enzymes to digest diary.

And I ignored doctors, who maybe took one course in college about

nutrition and maybe read a chapter in some textbook about

autism.....when I tell them that my son tested positive for mercury

poisoning...they look at me dumb found and then ask how he got it.

So know you are more of an expert when it comes to autism than

them...

That's awful. The things that made the difference for us were the enzymes.

Seeing was believing in our case. Finding the right product, knowing the

possible situations that can arise, definitly not something to undertake

blindly. But, you will find little support for enzymes in about 90% of the

medical community when it comes to treating autistic kids. At least this has

been our experience.

Hi ,

What a terrible time for you. I guess the best thing to do would be

to tell the Ped that recommended him how lousy he was, and to not

rec. him again to future families!

My Ped. is an Allergy Specialist, and upon my initial concerns of my

son and asd, I put him on GFCF at 17 mos. When I went back and told

him of the wonderful gains we had seen, he basically blew it off,

saying a diet couldn't do that and my son wasn't autistic! Needless

to say, after my son was dx. at 20 mos., it is now my Ped. who has

poor eye contact with me... Not my asd 25 mos old!
