Guest guest
Hi - The same thing hapeened to my son three years ago, when he was 3 years old.. had what the doctor called a " partial-complex seizure " (I think I have the name right). It was the zoning out thing, for about 20 minutes, and then all of a sudden he started crying. I guess that was when he " snapped out of it. " Boy, was it ever frightening! The neurologist told me that everyone could have one or two of them without much cause for concern, but after a second one people should be monitored. (My family doctor suspected that I had one when I was 16, and it never happened again). My son was GFCF at the time and I accidentally gave him rice milk with gluten in it. He was drinking so much of it, like an addict! After eleven days, I realized what was going on and took it away cold turkey. The next day he had the seizure. My neurologist dismissed it, but our GI at the time thought there was a connection. I hope all is well with you and your family. Lori Getz OT - experience with seizures and treatments Gosh, I wish I wasn't having to write this message! I think my son (2 and a half years old) had a seizure about 40 minutes ago. He was with one of his therapists, so my knowledge of what happened is second-hand (I did have her repeat her recollection of the event several times to make sure I knew every detail). He was sitting watching a video, eating his lunch and she said his face seemed to go blank and he just sat still holding his fork. She offered his juice expecting him to either push the juice away or say " juice " to receive it. He did neither and just sat there (out of character). Then a few moments later (I do not know the exact amount of time...just that it was brief) his stare broke and his little bottom lip stuck out and he began sobbing! I walked into the playroom when I heard his " heartbroken cry " thinking he had been hurt or was scared and needed Mommy. He just tucked into her for comfort and cried (not hysterical...just frightened). When he saw me he rushed over and snuggled/cried with me. He has had a 24 hour EEG which came back with " abnormal brain waves " predominantly during sleep, but nothing indicative of seizures. He currently only takes the following supps: all 3 HNI enzymes, coromega once daily and carnaware once daily. I am posting here because many of you are parents of a child on the spectrum and I am in need of advice. If you know anything about " episodes " like the one my son had today and any ideas about what could help (if in fact this seems like seizure activity) you would be helping me greatly! Thanks so much. __________________________________________________
