Guest guest Posted September 25, 2004 Report Posted September 25, 2004 hi eveyone, i thought i posted yesterday for the first time but i can't see my post anywhere. ah well, so much for just starting perimenapause and finding out that my son (3 1/2) might have aspergers and will most probably have to leave his first preschool only one week after starting due to severe difficulty with social interaction. i'm very interested in the disgestive enzymes and don't know where to start. i want to give them a try but am concerned about their safety, how long can kids stay on them, how do i know how much to give, what might be a good place to start do you think i ought to have my son's pediatrician ok them before we start? etc. i've ordered a good book on the subject from amazon but haven't received it yet. my son is very smart, single focused (plays exclusively with Magna Tiles and magnets -- the stick shaped ones that come with small metal balls) and he loves books and the computer. doesn't love outside, is a bit clumsy and often hangs and lean on us. he's very interactive with us and with most other adults that he knows but will never say hello or look at other adults that he hasn't developed a relationship with (ie, neighborhood people always say hi to him and he always looks straight ahead and doens't talk) he doesn't have too hard a time with transitions but certainly can melt down when he's overtired which seems to be often since his sleep is VERY bad and always has been. He was horribly colicky for the first 4 1/2 months, after that he was mostly uncomfortable until he was over a year and now, he's mostly a happy guy as long as he is getting LOTS of attention and is playing with an adult who will do it his way. he CANNOT be with other kids. this only started a few months ago. before then, he just had no interest in kids and would ignore them. he has yet to sleep through the night. oh, wait. he did it once last month. that was a MIRACLE! my husband and i are in the process of having him evaluated but, after what i've seen and read, i am pretty sure he has aspergers. we are searching everywhere for a specialist to see him (everyone is overloaded it seems--we live in Rhode Island) and the department of education process, which we have begun, takes a LONG time. in the meantime, i keep reading about aspergers (any suggestions on books you all found helpful?) and about digestive enzymes. i'm afraid to get my hopes up but i also want to do all that i can to help him. thanks for listening. kyra Quote
