Guest guest
Dear Group,, Hi group i need any feedback that would help me with my son,My son christopher is all most eight years old,He is on 1/4 teaspoon of fluoxetine and 40ml of strattera,He been taking this for a while now been doing well. The past two weeks he been hitting, pinching and pulling hair on his class mates. He is not doing work in class,If he dont get his way he will knock something over. He is getting out of controll. He was on 15ml of strattera and doctor increased about 7 mounths ago to the 40ml.there is only the 60ml left in the strattera family,It works good....but not for long.I liked it because it was a non stimalit and does not hurt any body organs, thats why i used it for my son.We are going to doctor next monday and would love to here what other childern is taking ,We tryed ritalin and others in its family made him worse.A friend of mine her child is taking Adderall XR and been doing great with it.I like something that has little side effects.I know every child is different with there meds,I really dont know nothing what is out there for my child.I hear on this board talk about houstin stuff, can you use it even if my son is on his meds.Any info would be great.Thank you ,And God Bless You All. [For the love of my son] Irene
Guest guest
I hear on this board talk about houstin stuff, can you use it even if my son is on his meds.Any info would be great.>> Although our experiences with our sons are diffent in context, overall they have some similarities. It's possible our experience might help a little bit. My son is 8 and has a diagnosis of AS/anxiety. He has never been aggressive though, but anti-social. Either way, it doesn't help make friends or endear him to the school staff. He would also pop his cork frequently and was very inflexible. The Dr. at Children's who diagnosed him prescribed Paxil. The prescribed dose was 5 mg and it was to control anxiety and perseverative behavior. We never gave the full prescribed dose and these behaviors did improve. However, he was still tantruming. After 6 mos. on Paxil, we decided that instead of raising the dose each time we had a problem (this is what the doc. wanted us to do) we would look for other solutions. That's when we saw a DAN doctor and he recommended enzymes. We ordered Houston's (all three) but ended up only giving AFP pep -- one capsule at every meal and snack or sprinkled on food. After a couple weeks we could see an affect for the better. At this time, we decided to pull the Paxil away -- we are now down to 0.2 ml (0.4 mg of a 5 mg prescription) and by next week he will be Paxil free. He has a few remaining behaviors, but nothing that distinquishes him from his peers. We will continue to provide enzymes because they appear to be helping with flexibility, language, transitions, mood, friendships etc. We just moved and my son has adjusted to the move well, considering his anxiety issues. Paxil helped us get through a rough time and we did not have aggressive behavior with our son like we have with our daughter. I know that the hitting is hard on the parent and is very tough to stick out. I hope you have a good school placement and admin. that can work with you on school based solutions. As for home based solutions, we used an anger thermometer, a link system suggested by for incentives, books and stories, and other supplements including Omega IIIs from Nordic Naturals, Olive leaf extract (helps with anxiety) and sometimes chromium. He eats a whole foods diet along the lines of Feingold and we avoid apples at all costs (5 enzymes for an apple). Our DAN recommended 5HTP for mood but we have not yet had to use it -- the enzymes appear to do the trick overall. We may try no fenol at some point if needed. The DAN also recommended metal free and TMG but we haven't tried these things yet either. I hope this helps a little. S.
