Although our experiences with our sons are diffent in context,

overall they have some similarities. It's possible our experience

might help a little bit.

My son is 8 and has a diagnosis of AS/anxiety. He has never been

aggressive though, but anti-social. Either way, it doesn't help

make friends or endear him to the school staff. He would also pop

his cork frequently and was very inflexible. The Dr. at Children's

who diagnosed him prescribed Paxil. The prescribed dose was 5 mg

and it was to control anxiety and perseverative behavior. We never

gave the full prescribed dose and these behaviors did improve.

However, he was still tantruming. After 6 mos. on Paxil, we decided

that instead of raising the dose each time we had a problem (this is

what the doc. wanted us to do) we would look for other solutions.

That's when we saw a DAN doctor and he recommended enzymes. We

ordered Houston's (all three) but ended up only giving AFP pep --

one capsule at every meal and snack or sprinkled on food. After a

couple weeks we could see an affect for the better. At this time,

we decided to pull the Paxil away -- we are now down to 0.2 ml (0.4

mg of a 5 mg prescription) and by next week he will be Paxil free.

He has a few remaining behaviors, but nothing that distinquishes him

from his peers. We will continue to provide enzymes because they

appear to be helping with flexibility, language, transitions, mood,

friendships etc. We just moved and my son has adjusted to the move

well, considering his anxiety issues.

Paxil helped us get through a rough time and we did not have

aggressive behavior with our son like we have with our daughter. I

know that the hitting is hard on the parent and is very tough to

stick out. I hope you have a good school placement and admin. that

can work with you on school based solutions.

As for home based solutions, we used an anger thermometer, a link

system suggested by for incentives, books and stories, and

other supplements including Omega IIIs from Nordic Naturals, Olive

leaf extract (helps with anxiety) and sometimes chromium. He eats a

whole foods diet along the lines of Feingold and we avoid apples at

all costs (5 enzymes for an apple). Our DAN recommended 5HTP for

mood but we have not yet had to use it -- the enzymes appear to do

the trick overall. We may try no fenol at some point if needed.

The DAN also recommended metal free and TMG but we haven't tried

these things yet either.

I hope this helps a little.

S.
