About a week into the first round, my son started acting really strangely. He was hugely irritable and irriational. For example, we were at a friend's house, and my son bumped into the piano and bruised his hip. He started crying, then started screaming that his friend, who had been playing quietly on the other end of the room, pushed him and made him bump into the piano and wanted to hurt him. This is just one example; there were many others. His behaviour was just so off, and getting worse and worse. I read several places that Uva Ursi is hard on the liver, and also that it was not recommended on young children. Of course, this may have been die-off, but it also may have been that my son couldn't tolerate it, and we stopped using it. Debbie
Guest guest
Our DAN! doc recommended Uva Ursi to treat my son's bacteria issue. He tested negative for yeast but does have bacteria problems (Bacillus cereus, etc.). I have a few questions for any of you who have used this. She recommended 8 drops twice/day for 4 to 6 weeks (the suggested use on the package is 40-60 drops of extract in a small amount of warm water 3 times per day). I will be following her recommendation. I was reading up on this product on the web and I saw a reference which said that you should only use this product for 7 to 10 days. So, I am curious if others have used Uva Ursi for a time frame of 4-6 weeks? Does the dosage difference correlate to the amount of time needed to treat the bacteria. In other words, our dosage is much smaller that the recommended (although I am also taking into consideration that this is for a child -- I realize the dose on the bottle would be an adult dosage) but my son will be taking it for a much longer amount of time than recommended. Is this sort of like a slow and steady approach by my DAN! doc as opposed to a more powerful knock it out quickly approach on the bottle? I'm just trying to understand. Any one have any side effects or problems using this product? Anything to look out for? Thanks! Sue

I use the capsules, but I have used much more than this, for a longer period of time, without problems. It depends on your child. Guest guest
I think this behavior is related to bacteria counts.Either they are high or they are dying off. That's what I have noticed in my son.I know that at a McCandless conference I attended she mentioned that you should not put children on uva ursi for more than three weeks at a time.It is too hard on the kidneys. Guest guest
Hi Christy - Thanks for your reply. I don't have the drops -- I have the capsules (1 cap = 250 mg).
