I bought my Candex at The Vitamin Shoppe (off the shelf) in the

women's health section. I haven't used it yet.

I agree: it is time to put your foot down and eliminate some of the

sugar. We all need to make tough choices as parents. I used

treats as reward for many things and got myself in quite the jam.

You can start by giving less candy each time, or just go for it and

drastically cut it out of his life. His body will thank you...

which could soon translate in to better behavior and better health.

Perhaps finding a way to get some protein in to his diet? If you

are GFCF, that could be more difficult for picky eaters. I just

made some GFCF brown rice pancakes that are loaded with protein. My

son ate a ton (I'll admit, I put some bittersweet chocolate chips in

the batter!). Maybe nuts or nut butters?

There is a " soda pop " called The Switch that I use for special

occasions. I buy it at my health food store/Food co-operative. It

is expensive ($1 per bottle), but free from corn syrup, colors,

preservatives. It is just carbonated juice.

PLEASE avoid chemically altered sugars like NutraSweet and Splenda.

I know this doesn't apply to everyone, but this stuff makes me so

ill (symptoms of brain tumor). Adults can make their own choices,

but I think kids are better of without it.

This will be a transition. There will be battles of wills and maybe

some meltdowns. In the vast majority of cases, it is temporary.

Kids need to eat!

I wish you luck: I've been there! I have fallen off the

sugar/carbs wagon over the holidays and need to get back to

business. My son has been whinier lately.
