Guest guest
, I just had to write although I see many others already concurred that your son most definitely sounds Aspie! Interestingly, I have two girls and 9yo aspie, very smart like your son but very socially inept and had severe motor skills delays but much better now after years of OT and adaptive PE. She also has always had an excellent vocabulary, reads at a very advanced level and is very literal. She started saying words at 4.5 months, not a typo and had over 115 words at 12 months, which is one, why we didn't worry so much about her unilateral congenital hearing loss AND she wasn't diagnosed with AS until age 8. Although, she always had lacked eye contact. THe other, 7yo, is diagnosed with a combination of OCD and Generalized anxiety and has also alot of the same characteristics as your son except that she is also a social butterfly and highly coordinated, highly aware of others and empathic. So at first glance your son sounded like the perfect mix of my two opposite girls. Incidentally, my 7yo's phobias of the month and rituals and anxiety stuff have gotten much better with antidepressant meds. Interestingly, I am diagnosed with ADD (only in the last 2 years) and also take antidep and ritalin which has really changed my life and helped me immensely. It is becoming more and more clear from all I read that ADD, OCD, Anxiety and Autism(AS) are all very much interrelated. I definitely have the sensory issues of Aspergers. My 83 yo father definitely has Aspergers as well. Welcome to this wonderful most helpful list! And I guess I would definitely go in there and fight for all the services Aspergers kids should get ASAP like: Occupational therapy for motor skills, Pragmatic language and social skills therapy, Adaptive PE for motor skills as well as group skills, and any help he might need with sensory issues, such as breaks from the classroom, places to go to ground himself, etc.... Best wishes, Amy in SF area ____________________________________________________________________
