Guest guest
For Melinda Wiman, Try reading some of O. C. Simonton, M.D.. He is an radiologist/oncologist, I believe. He is written a few books alone and with his wife . She is either a psychiatrist or psychologist. I have loaned out the books and do not recall the names, but I am sure they could be found easily on Amazon.com and O.C. Simonton has a web site. I am trying to go through my email, but , if I have time later, I will try to find it for you. Good luck with your friend and her pain. Best wishes, Lexi Simonton (no relation to O.C. known. My sister-in-law found the book on the net looking for things with my husband's family name. It was a great find and has helped me tremendously when I was first diagnosed with ovarain cancer, stagelllc.
Guest guest
Melinda, Try " Imagery in Healing: Shamanism and Modern Medicine " by Jeanne Achterberg. Although it is not exactly " conventional " (what alternative treatment is???), the author does cover many case histories of people using shamanic journeys and imagery to boost their immune system and ultimately recover from cancer. Guest guest
If you are looking for good guided imagery try Belleruth Naparstek's Health Journeys tapes and cds. You can find them on Amazon.com or through her web site (www.healthjourneys.com). She has one for cancer that is excellent, and there are titles for lots of other things, too. My favorites are the stress and general wellness tapes. I hope your friend is feeling better! > Looking for some good books, audios, or videos on the topic for someone who is more conventional but in pain. > > Melinda Wiman > www.cancure.org > The Cancer Cure Foundation > (800) 282-2873 > Information and referrals on alternative approaches to treating cancer > > > >

Guest guest
Hi Jenna ... my best friend is a hypnotherapist. We worked on what I intended for the surgery and healing. She put me into a trance a couple days before, using key words and a meditation. Then when I came out of recovery, my friend read the meditation to me (I don't remember because I was so groggy). I truly believe working with the subconscious helps you heal faster. The power of suggestion ... At the hospital, I know the nurses were surprised my oxygen level stayed at 95-99% and my red cell count was quite high for just having surgery. I think that intentions do speed up healing as does prayer. I am getting ready to have my next hip replaced and will also do another guided imagery.JackieTRHR 10/24/06TLHR 1/23/07No banners. Guest guest
Jenna, I have a good friend who does hypnotherapy, and he made tapes for me for pre- and post-op. I listened to them frequently, especially the pre-op tape, and I'm glad I had this resource, as it was very helpful in reducing my anxieties and worries. I had another CD of guided imagery which was not specifically directed to surgery, recovery, etc. I listened to it a few times but didn't find it as helpful. Hope this helps, Judy > > I would like to hear from those members who have used or are using > guided imagery in their pre-/post-op periods. > > I had a visit with my surgical coordinator and we're good to go for > 2/1. Guest guest
Hi Jenna, I found a book called Success Surgery, by Baker, MD. It was recommended to me by two therapists, each of whom had used the book and tapes and found them to be very helpful. His book has relaxation and guided imagery scripts for basic use, immediate pre- and post-op, in the operaating room, and recuperation. You can also order his tapes (of the same) and customize them. He also explains the entire surgery process of what to expect and helpful tips. I just used the tapes for a hip resurfacing and found that I lost very little blood and am having a fairly easy recovery. I'm still using them for moving on to feeling great! I highly recommend them! Good Luck! Guest guest
Hi Anne, I googled Dr Baker, MD and found one in MD and one in Fla., but no book called Success Surgery. Do you know the publisher or how long ago you got this? Thanks Dahhling Re: Guided Imagery Hi Jenna, I found a book called Success Surgery, by Baker, MD. Guest guest
When I had heart surgery, the hospital loaned me a tape player and tape named "Successful Surgery" by Belleruth Naparstek of HEALTHJOURNEYS www.healthjourneys.com One side is guided imagery, the other is Affirmations. I was allowed to listen to the tape during the operation, after having it for a week before the surgery. The tape is very effective. I loan it to everyone I know who has to do surgery. Guest guest
dear Judy I had TKR done 22 months ago. My husband is an anaesthesiologist. But he was not near me during my surgery. But all the pre op and post op hypnotherapy was given by him. In fact I was made to walk the very next day after my surgery by my physio. I started walking with minimal support 10 days after the surgery and resumed normal household duties in a month from my surgery. I have no complaints. The pain remained for a couple of months but gradually wore off.I did look up imagery of pre ,during ops and post ops while at home. The physiotherapy is all that is important. the appetite will return gradually after the long term effects of drugs wear off. Guest guest
I borrowed the tapes from someone else. The information for ordering the tapes is in the back of the book. Guest guest
Thanks to all who responded to my querie. This looks to be an underserved area in surgical care, depending on where you are. --Jenna > > I would like to hear from those members who have used or are using > guided imagery in their pre-/post-op periods. > > I had a visit with my surgical coordinator and we're good to go for > 2/1.
