Yup, my husband is an engineer, too -- mechanical engineer and graduate of

Cornell. One of his brothers is an ophthalmologist and the other has his

PhD in rural sociology. My husband can go months without calling either

brother (both parents are deceased.) I tend to " orchestrate " even the

get-togethers he has with friends! He enjoyed seeing his frat. Brothers at

his 25th college reunion, but I was the one that had to send the emails to

get it rolling!

I read all vegetable protein is fine, but, just be oh so careful with the

animal protein

I have my son on about 30 gm of protein no more.

This is to keep down ammonia and any toxins from the red meat

sherry

Blood Urea Nitrogen (BUN): which is removed by the kidney. The kidney

continually filters urea from the blood, excreting it in the urine. Many

Americans carry high levels of protein breakdown products in their blood,

primarily because of their high protein diet, particularly animal protein.

Healthier low-protein nutrition characteristically lowers the urea nitrogen

circulating in the blood.

BUN/CREAT Ratio: This ratio is another index of kidney function. If the BUN

falls, the ratio of BUN/creatinine will reduce as well. Therefore, a lower

BUN/creatinine ratio represents healthier kidney function at a reduced level of

toxic protein products in the blood.

Does anyone know what the blood test for BUN/CREAT RATIO actually is

for. Mine was at 6 and the range is 8-36. I thought it had something

to do with the Kidneys, I have to go back to the DR on Wednesday and

he wants to talk to me about it. Please let me know.
