Guest guest
Hi , Welcome ! Firstly you can get all sorts everywhere depending on where you are but a lot of people find the Houston's Enzymes are 'one of a kind' and others just don't match up to them. There are some on here who have come to use Houstons after being on others which didn't work. Also, if you are in the U.K. there is a phone no. for scotland for ordering but I think in the states it is done thru the site, don't know about anywhere else. Have you seen any other site ? http://www.danasview.net/index.htm http://www.enzymestuff.com/ best of luck Julea ) Things are only impossible, until they're not. Guest guest
Hi! I'm sort of in the same boat as you so can't offer much advise but have to agree - it's so exciting and overwhelming! I just read the book at Christmas, ordered the Houston enzymes and am just starting to build up the No-Fenol first (this may not be the one you want to do first though, others are probably in a better position to advise you on this). About where to buy the enzymes though, I'd go with Houston's and I'll tell you why. A few years ago (before I knew anything about the use of enzymes for autism) I was watching an infomercial for a digestive enzyme product (nu- zyme I think, can't remember). Everything the guy said made so much sense and my son definitely fit in one of his 4 " body types " with the related problems. We tried them for quite a while but they didn't seem to do much (at least not obvious) and we still needed the diet. I had been ordering vits from Kirkman for awhile so when I saw they had an enzyme that was supposed to break down casein/gluten I was so excited and ordered them. My son was on them for over a year and again, they may have had some sort of benefit (he did improve a lot over the year) but still could not get off the diet. Although the kirkman one's are supposed to help with casein/gluten I don't ever remember anyone saying they could be used " instead " of the diet. When I read this book though and all the stories of success with Houston's I realized that I was using the " wrong " enzymes for years and wanted to kick myself around the block at least a few times! I am really feeling good about these ones and can hardly wait to finish the transition over to all 3 products. So, to make a short story long, save yourself years of frustration and just go straight to the Houstons! I like Houston; my son reacts horribly to virtually anything Kirkman. Those are the only two companies I know of that have the DPP_IV in their formulae and that is what you need for the gluten and casein breakdown. There are a slew of enzyme companies and some are really great. They just have other things in their formulations that may not work well in our children and they are missing the DPP-IV. Also, give it time to work. You will likely see opiate withdrawal amd yeast die off reactions. For us, it was truly a hellish time but worth it in the end. Many people on this list recommend the Specific Carbohydrate Diet www.pecanbread.com . We do not follow this but others say it is helpful for them. There are other supplements you many want to add in but start slowly. Why not start with the enzymes and once you feel comfortable with them, add in other things? There are great resources online and in the bookstores to help with the learning process. I would start with the AFP Peptizyde because I like to start working on the gluten, casein and soy opiate byproducts. The company recommends starting with Zyme Prime but that does not address the gluten/casein/ soy components. Also, NoFEnol will help with yeast but you will likely experience dieoff reactions. Give one enzyme at a time to see reactions and perhaps wait a few weeks between adding in other things, including more enzymes. I did not do this and went down a harder path. Good luck, Robin
Guest guest
You can get some more info at enzymestuff.com as well as in the files here. We did the gfcf diet for a loooong 8 months and dropped it never to look back with Houston enzymes. We did try Kirkman enzymecomplete first only because I heard of it first, but it did not work for my daughter. You will probably find with the enzymes you will not need nearly the supplement load as before and will need to sort of start from scratch. My daughter absorbs way more vitamin B, for example and cannot tolerate any high doses. We did not see significant gains with the diet either. Actually, that was when my daughter developed trouble with yeast and bacteria. The list of her food intollerences continued to grow which was difficult as well as worrisome. With Houston's enzymes she tolerates almost anything and is much, much healthier and happier. I am so greatful not to have to do diets and to let her just eat good food. Good luck! --- In , dighazuse@m... wrote: > My son is 13 years old and was finally diagnosed (hurrah!) with High > Functioning Autism (deep sigh).
