I am just starting the enzymes with my 7 year old. I am curious if you still

think you need to forbid foods off your plate since your child is taking all

three Houston products for 3 weeks?

I am far from an expert as well :)

As you go towards the SCD, I would be interested in finding out what your

child will eat because the SCD for my son would be extremely hard to do. I

adapted well to GFCF because of the all the great substitute gluten products.

Dairy, well, hard to substitute but dealt with it.

Good luck. It sounds like you've got a good plan.

Robin,

I am by no means an expert but our plan is to slowly move to the SCD

so at this point I am hesitant to introduce other foods. At the

moment soy, egg, and yeast are out as well as gluten & casein. I hope

to introduce them eventually as his gut is healed.

Hi ,

I was just wondering if you've tried the pancakes with SCD

ingredients? Does he eat any nutbutters? If so, a good SCD intro

pancake recipe is just

2 eggs whipped

1/2 - 1 cup nut butter (I use cashew or peanutbutter)

1/2 teaspoon legal vanilla extract

1/2 teaspoon baking soda.

If bananas are ok, adding 1/2 very ripe smashed banana is delicious.

If yeast is not an issue, adding honey is nice, too. My son, ,

loves pancakes in any form. To be honest, he'll eat pancakes with

ground chicken in them... He also likes winter squash pancakes. He is

off bananas and honey right now and still gobbles these things up!

The same recipes work for muffins - just fill 1/2 way. They don't

rise, but are easier to get out of the pan.

Good luck! SCD has truly been the answer for us.

I would attribute the interest to the enzymes. We too were down to a miserly

variety of foods our son could safely eat, and the enzymes opened everything

back up, at least to GFCF levels. We've found oats to be okay, and due to all

our tinkering with other items ( anti fungals, anti virals, etc.) we are

hesitant to challenge anything else at the moment. But just getting back to the

GFCF diet was outstanding, just not counting every crumb he consumed, and having

the dark circles under his eyes going away is great. Good luck to you, I hope

more success is to follow.

Eating new foods

Hi,

This is my first time posting on this board. I have a 5 yo son with

Autism. We have done the GFCF diet for 2+ years without any

guidance. We realized in 6/03 that we had infractions along the way

and have sought to correct them.

In June, we had Sage testing done and dropped 10 more foods (soy,

corn, potatoes, ...) from his already incredibly limited diet.

His diet was reduced to almond milk, baby food and rice flour

pancakes.

Since July, we believe we have been almost completely infraction

free.

We also started enzymes at this time. Initially we used Kirkman's

Enz Complete and Similase jr. We didn't notice anything too dramatic

but kept at it.

About 3 weeks ago, we started Houston's No-Fenol, Peptizyde and Zyme

Prime. Last week, for the first time ever, grabbed some

fresh steamed brocolli and started eating it. Our predominantly non-

verbal - but incredibly cute:) - child then said, " I want ockery. "

repeatedly and ended up eating a bunch of it. He has also started

eating celery. The way he eats these items seems a little " stimmy "

to me though as he will chew pieces, pull some out and shred it and

then request more. Believe me, though, I am ecstatic to see him

interested in new foods - especially nutritious ones. We hope to

gradually move him to SCD but are a little intimidated at this point

as the rice flour pancakes are currently a staple at every meal.

My question for you Enzyme experienced folks is do you think that

the Houston enzymes are the reason for the new interest in food? I

should also mention that he suddenly seems much more aware of the

food on all of our plates and we are finding that we are having to

be careful that he doesn't grab one of the currently still forbidden

items from us.

Thank you for your thoughts.

Thank you for the recipe. When we had Sage testing done in June,

eggs came up on the list as something we needed to drop. Do you know

of a way to substitute for eggs? I've been using flax seed boiled

water in his rice flour pancakes but know that flax seeds are

illegal on SCD.

From what I've read on the SCD boards, it sounds like some of these

items shouldn't be problematic on the SCD as the gut is healing. I

guess I'm confused to know whether I can try a recipe with egg now

or if I need to find another way.

Thank you for your advice.

There are many kids on the elaineschildren list that have actual egg

allergies and they have all sorts of ideas about substitutes - I just

can't recall exactly how they do it. It seems they use coconut oil,

gelatin, squash, pear sauce and other things, but I'm not sure of the

method. Maybe you could do a search on the Lyris list?

www.pecanbread.com

Then go to the online support section.

Also, there has always been much discussion about the meaning of

certain tests. Some people have said that some tests mean a true

allergy and others just indicate an intolerance that would seem to

get better on SCD. I'm sure you could find some of that info on the

list archives, too.

Sorry I'm not too much help!

Good luck,

This is awesome. Thank you.
