We used Ritalin in the beginning and it did help but there were side

effects,

1. they only give enough to cover school hours and when it wears off you get

at least an hour of 'redress time' where they are even more hyper than

normal.

2.it mucked up our boys eating and one got dangerously thin.

3.they found it harder to get to sleep at night but were so deeply asleep in

the morning you couldn't wake them up.

Once they were off they told us they didn't feel like themselves when they

were on it.

we really didn't know much about it at first but were desperate for

something and had only heard of the cabbage diet which sounded horrendous;

but weren't happy with it and found they didn't regress and got better when

we put them on the gf/cf diet, from there we found enzymes which has enabled

them to go back onto a normal diet (altho there are some things we will

never have again now we know more about them) and make even more

improvements.

We also found increasing their supplements of omega oils, zinc, magnesium and

b vits made a difference too.

Good luck

Julea :o)

All things are possible until proved impossible - and even the impossible

may only be so, as of now.

My son is 3.5 years old and we use provigil with great success. We

started it and kept him on it for 4 months then we thought it was

interfering with his sleep cycle so we stopped for a month. During

that month not only did his sleep not improve he started to

regress. When we added it back in he took off. He is more aware of

everything around him and can work at a table for 50 mins or

longer. It is amazing.

it seems to be a dopamine reuptake inhibitor which would imply that

no fenol may well be effective.

WE have two kids and 7 has ADHd combined with OCD, anxiety and

developmental coordinaiton disorder. WE tried Concerta stimulant on her but it

made

her moody. There is a new drug out there for ADD/ADHd called Straterra.

does great wit it. She takes it after her breakfast. She focuses better.

I

hear that the stimulants help the kids iwth ADD/ADHd.If I had to I would only

give stimulant for no more than 2 years then put them on the straterra.

Our son is going to be 4 in Febraury he too has ADHd, OCD, PDD/mild autims

and severe sensory Integration dysfunction. We siad no meds but the kids canot

funciton with no meds.Heis on a stimulant which helps him sit down and

leanr.Yes he still needs frequent breaks. Email me at SRJsmom572@... so I

can send

you a link how to help kids with ADD/ADHd with school. Also saw a

developmetnal pediatrician who helps child with disability with school issues

and she

had great ideas I can forward to you
