hello everyone,

i just joined the group, my name is , i had

ra now for 10 years, i been on gold injections which i had to stop because of

side effects and am currently on mtx and sulidac, the methotrexate doesn't

seem to be working as it once did and i was wondering if anyone is on the new

medications i hear about and how are they working? my rheumatologist now says

that the ra in my wrist is now chronic and x-rays showed bone corrosion, i

have a high rf factor and also thyroid problems which i understand is common

for people with ra,does anyone try any herbal remedies and what do you think

about this approach,

My daughter had RA ten years ago and her rheumy told her it's important to be

aggressive in treating RA, the first 2 years are the most important ones to

get

control of the RA. She took gold shots for 6 months and has been in remission

for 10 years. Just gets a tiny flare up in her hands if she gets tired or

stressed.

I took 2 gold shots as Dr. thought if it worked for my daughter it might work

for me.

I had a nitroclycic (SP?)reaction after the 2nd shot so could not take any

more (guess this

is very rare) I was not diagnosed until I had had RA for 2-3 years so my

chances

of controlling it are not as good/.

Might be a good idea to ask your Dr. about this theory

Yeah when they do find the main gene that causes RA, I'll be too old to

wear jeans gracefully. LOL (Pun intended)

Welcome Carol,

I'm sure you will find the support you're looking for here. With

so many members, you will find a variety of situations and how they were

dealt with. Everyone has a different twist to their story whether

it be insurance related, pediatrician problems, or personal issues in regard

to banding (or helmet), yet a lot of the anxiety and emotions are the same.

I'm glad you've begun the process now and you have the support of your

child's physician. Don't fret about yur sweet little one wearing

the helmet; most of the kids adjust to it before the parents! And

as far as the rest of the public goes, the majority of the response I get

is positive. The important thing to remember is that she's your baby and

you know best. Good luck and fill us in on how she's doing.

wonderful results. My son, brian, started early and we just graduated

after only being in the DOC for 2 months. I cried the two weeks

before his casting appointment every night and cuddled his head- to

the point where if he could have talked he would have said lay off

the head mom - enough already.Then he got casted and I felt bad and

guilty that he had to go through this becasue of something I did and

then I cried some more until he got his helmet. Then I loved the

helmet and he loved the attention that he got in it and he looked os

darn cute in it I just wanted to eat him up. Then I saw this

beautifully rounding head and was so so happy that we decided to go

with the helmet instead of waiting to see if it would round out and

now I have a helmet graduate and I miss the helmet although I love

snuggling and kissing his head:-) So dont worry that long winded

story was to let you know that you arent alone. But you sound like a

wonderful mommy who is doing great by her kids and what more could

you ask for in a mom. Keep up the wonderful job and let is know how

the appointment goes next week.

Hello Jodi and welcome

Your little lad is very lucky to have you as his Mum and your love and support

is the best you can give him. It takes a lot of time and searching to find out

about CMT as there is a lot of repetitive info on the web. What you will find on

this site though is people who live with it on a day to day level and not some

doctor who doesn't know what they're talking about. Gretchen has some fantastic

info on this site about CMT take time and read some of that - it will help.

My son was just diagnosed with CMT on Monday. My ex-husband and

friend was diagnosed at the same time. I was pretty prepared because

I knew something was wrong, but it was still a shock. I've been

at this point and time. We're waiting right now for the genetic

testing to come back to confirm the diagnosis, but he's only five,

and he's already showing major signs of CMT. He's a real trooper,

though. I love him so much. I'm really glad that I found other

Hello Matt,

Welcome to the group.

I too read Walford's book when I was 40. His 1986 book. I sat on

the fence until I was 54. The years go by in a blur. Don't sit on

that fence too long.

No need to loose muscle mass except for the muscle mass you don't

need. If you want the muscles, you gotta feed 'em. That means

calories. I personally don't ever foresee the need to lift a 250

pound weight off my chest. I use my body as weight and work out on

a high bar in the back yard, then push-ups, etc. I'm also a

landscaper so I get to use a lot of muscle all day everyday.

Don't worry about loosing muscle mass yet. Concentrate on getting

your body fat down (see Walford pg 225). Read the book several

times for that matter. You'll be surprised how much you have

forgotten or missed during the first read.

Putting a dehumidifier in a basement does not stop mold growth.

Keeping the relative humidity below 50% stops mold growth. Get a

relative humdity meter from Radio Shack or Wal-marts and measure the

RH in the basement. If the RH is +55%, you need more

dehumidification. Most residential dehumidifiers do not have enough

capacity when used in cool basements to reduce the RH to <50%. The

musty odor should go away if the space is <50% RH. This is

critical. Typical basements require 60-70 pints of water removal per

day to control mold growth. You may need a heavy duty unit.

Hi and welcome to the group! I want to let you know about my surgeon,

who is probably the leader in explant and lift surgery in the

country, maybe the world. Anyhow, she is in Ohio, but many women

still go there, in fact I know of women who went to her from Europe.

One recently in fact. I also know she is the sweetest, kindest,

humble Dr I have ever met( and I have met allot of them) and she does

beautiful work. She also probably has the most patients and photos on

the web that you will find. So if experience and expertise is what

you are looking for she is the best. Now the only drawbacks is that

she is so far away, and she does not come cheap. If you are

interested in seeing her work check out www.drfeng.com and also

www.explantation.com their are quite a few ladies on that site who

used Dr Feng including me. I am under the Nickname CJ over their and

my pics are up there. I felt that I had to tell you about Dr Feng

because of the fact that I don't know of any other surgeon who has

done as many lifts and explants as her and also who has as many happy

patients. So if your looking for an expert she is def one to see. As

far as other surgeons go, there are a few, and most of them are going

to be a distance to get to. The way I personally saw it was if I was

going to do this, and travel, then I wanted the best and was willing

to pay for it. But anyhow don't just take my word for it, ask around

and check out the explantation site too, there are so many women

there that used Dr Feng. There is usually at least one a week going

to her as well so you might even be able to hook up with someone for

support, I know that they do that allot through that site. But please

do stick around this group as well the girls here are awesome and

Patty knows so much about natural healing as do others. We all care

so much, I would love to hear more about your story and also know

that your def not alone!

Dr. Bihari recommended that I use Irmat Pharmacies in New York. He said

that he had bad experiences from other pharmacies. He found that they were

compounding LDN to about 2mg even though the bottle said 4.5mg.

I am just following his suggestions.

I know that the doc I use (Dr. Sullivan, 717-697-5050)

recomends Fairview Compounding Center, Steele 800-882-1377

or 717-540-7031). I have used him twice now and he is nothing but great!

I think you want to use someone reputable and experienced with compounding

this drug as it is an unusual dose for MS.

I will get my 9th and 10th shots friday morning and so far the xolair

has seemed to have cleared up my sinus allergies. The asthma has

improved but not enough yet.

Hi folks,

What you have to keep in mind is that Xolair (luckily) only binds to

free IgE. IgE that is attached to mast cells will not bind to

Xolair. This is very important because if the IgE that is binded to

mast cells would bind to Xolair this would cause a dramatic

anaphalyctic attack.(all the mast cells would burst open and spill

enourmous amounts of histamine) It has taken the laboratories quite

some time to make sure that xolair will not bind to attached IgE.

This however means that in people that have a lot of binded IgE

(especially so in the case of asthma) it will take more time for

xolair to have an effect. First the already binded IgE has to work

off...and than xolair will prevent new IgE to bind with mast cells.

This process can take some months. So indeed some allergic sympthoms

(that have to do with free IgE) might dissapear rather soon while

other sympthoms (that have to do with binded IgE) will take more

time to clear.
