I havent found anything to worry about - but does someone here has a special warning for me? (like morphine pills are a no-no) ? Guest guest Posted September 5, 2006 Report Share Posted September 5, 2006 Since you said outpatient I am assuming there will be no overnight stay and you won't have to worry about dietary services etc. I work in a hospital pharmacy and I do NOT think the IV supplies are 'lubricated' with any sort of gluten containing stuff and have never seen any evidence of any kind of powdery substance on anything. Nevermind the sterility implications of such a thing. I am assuming again since you said outpatient that you may only get one or two oral meds for pain there (but probably not even that-it will probably be injected) and will have to fill the rest at a retail pharmacy. The retail pharmacy should be able to provide you the package insert to help determine if its gluten free. It may be helpful to ask your doctor to write your post treatment rx BEFORE the surgery so you can deal with making sure you get GF meds before you are 'incapacitated' (to whatever degree that might be). I do not think it would be safe to check it out now at the pharmacy of your choice but not fill the prescription until later as they may not have the same brand in stock when you (or someone for you) goes back. Since fillers can vary from mfg to mfg its entirely possible for one brand of, say, generic vicodin to be ok and another to not be. I’m going in for mine tomorrow. If that’s what it is, beware, the prep stinks! (Hahaha -- lots of sitting on the toilet & “peeing out of your butt”, at least that’s what it feels like). Let me know if it is a colon/endoscopy, and I’ll let you know how mine went & what, if anything, to watch out for. So I'm really planing to be fine (let me dream please... at least this time I wont have a screaming baby next to me) Thanks (I forgot your name) for mentioning a ahead Rx.
