Guest guest
Thanks Sue...I am trying to get my local safeway to get some gluten mixes as well. Atleast when I am in my sons neck of the woods I can pick some up. Right there in the baking mix aisle was Gluten-Free Pantry sandwich bread mix and Gluten-Free Pantry cake and cookie mix. Even though I had them both in my cupboards at home, I still bought a package of the cake and cookie mix to show my support. I will be talking with the Safeway manager soon. Guest guest
I hope you have luck with that. Everytime I have spoken with an Albertson's or Safeway manager, or have written a request, I see no results and get no response. One Safeway in Oakland started carrying the San-J Wheat Free Tamari and a few weeks later it was gone--and evidently not to be seen again (when I say gone, I don't mean simply out of stock). Worse, on multiple occasions at both stores (that were at the time carrying Bob's Red Mill brand) I requested Bob's Red Mill Gluten Free Baking Mix and, guess what, months later there were more packages of Wheat Gluten on the shelves! I don't know if this is a local management issue, or if the stores are stuck carrying the items that the district buyer purchases. It is frustrating.Rosie <lavendersequoia@...> wrote: Thanks Sue...I am trying to get my local safeway to get some gluten mixes as well. Guest guest
I really don't understand how Safeway stocking works either. I was excited because one remodeled Safeway near my area carried Mrs. Leepers " beef " lasagna. I stocked up and then realized it didn't taste good with tofu and mushrooms subbed for the beef, oops. They seemed to run out and then not stock more, and they never had the other two varieties which I actually like. The other day we went to a different Safeway, and they had the Chicken Alfredo (which I have hopes for with the substitution of tofu), but no other varieties. ??? I don't understand the variation in store stock in a chain store like this.... To be fair, I wasn't motivated enough to talk to a manager etc. about it. Wouldn't it be nice if Safeway always (or ever!) carried the San-J wheat free soy sauce? Sometimes it is the one ingredient I HAVE to go to the health food store to buy. And Mollie Stone (Cal Ave) used to carry my favorite DeBolles (sp?) no boil GF lasagna, no longer does but DOES carry all their other gluten products. I wrote a comment/ request there for Amy's Rice Crust Pizza (they have other Amy's products) and never saw it stocked. Bah, humbug. Nob Hill in Mt. View used to carry the rice crust pizza, and despite the fact that I (and others) bought it like it was going out of style, and asked about it, they never seemed to re-order it. Doh. So, like you, I am a little discouraged about store stocking policy. Ah well.. PS I would weep for joy if I saw GFP mixes at any of my local Safeways! Especially if they didn't cost a fortune like they do at Country Sun. > > I hope you have luck with that.
